BREAKING: A federal judge has ruled that the Revolution Wind #offshorewind project, which Trump's BOEM ordered to stop work, can resume work.

The judge described the order as "the height of arbitrary and capricious." It was also illegal.

Related: the soft AI-boosterism in @ezraklein.bsky.social's Abundance was one of its weaker points. I would really appreciate it if pundits like Klein stopped hitching AI and nuke boosterism to the necessary policy reforms to build housing and #cleanenergy.

It's harder and harder to believe that #AI will make the world a better place (something AI boosters seem to believe and most normal humans don't) when AI companies seem hell-bent on doing shit that destroys the fabric of our society.

We live in a world where AI companies are working on tools that allow people to make ever more realistic deepfakes, but dont think to apply their resources so autocorrect can recognize and add apostrophe to “don’t”.

At this point it isn't even ignorance anymore. It's just lies.

But we knew we could solve this frequency/inertia problem at least six ago (as documented in my 2019 article on the subject) - probably a lot longer.

The issue of why we need inertia is oft-misunderstood. & I suspect we'll only need inertia until we replace our current system of frequency stabilization w/ systems based on DERMS (or something similar) managing thousands (millions?) of grid-forming inverters. /3

But what I find really interesting here is the idea of using a "clutch" on existing gas plants, instead of synchronous condensers, to supply the lost physical inertia when big coal and gas fired power plants retire.

The United states does not import meaningful volumes of cells from China. So the only potential impact to the US is on wafer prices, which are in the $0.02 per watt range.

This will marginally drive up prices in Europe and ROW. For the US market this is meaningless.

hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.
