We lost our house in the Eaton Fire. We're safe, but the level of devastation is impossible to convey. I won't be able to work for a while, so if you want to support us, I'd appreciate a Patreon subscription or buying one of my books. It will help.

We need to stop thinking just about what will hurt Trump, and start thinking about what will hurt the next iteration of GOP leaders. Trump is a lame duck, he's finished as a candidate. His acolytes are very much just getting started. And Epstein is radioactive for them.

Trump's "work 20 hours a day and rip phone books in half" image has never been more at odds with reality. He's an old man and slowing down in all the ways people do when they're old. Maybe he used to have superhuman energy, but Father Time always wins in the end.
“..Trump in his second term has started scheduled events in the afternoon on average, at 12:08 p.m. .. The number of Mr. Trump’s total official appearances has decreased by 39 percent.”

Today is the 62nd anniversary of JFK being assassinated by a trained marksman firing a close and unobstructed volley of shots at a slow-moving and unprotected car, hitting a target who could not physically move. RIP, President Kennedy.

I have no idea where MTG will land, but I'd bet heavily on her being back in the public eye. She can sit out what will be a midterm bloodbath, then return in early 2027 as the common sense and middle class rebirth of MAGA. She's much smarter than anyone gives her credit for.

The insurrectionists who sacked the capitol and attempted to murder members of Congress to overturn a free election are trying to define "sedition" as something other than what they did. The absolute nerve of these people.

Trump's drain-circling is becoming a vortex. The closer you are to him, the harder it will pull you down. Any Republican with an ounce of instinct for self-preservation will be getting as far from his as possible - even as his cultists hug him tighter.
Q: Trump accused Democrats of seditious behavior punishable by death. Does the president want to execute members of Congress?

LEAVITT: No

Rebuilding from the fire while working and managing the everyday needs of life is like walking through mud while wrapped in gauze during a thick fog. Or maybe it's like walking through fog while covered in mud while it rains gauze. I don't know, my brain hardly works anymore.

This is why the "there will never be another election" defeatism is so harmful. There WILL be an election, Trump has no control over it, and his attempts to influence its outcome are failing. To declare we'll never have another election is to give up without a fight. That's the only way they win.
Everyone dooming about 2026 is wrong.

Authoritarianism isn’t consolidated. Republicans can’t rig the midterms.
And their efforts to manipulate them may be backfiring.

The triumphalists had a similar over-read of 2024 as the doomerists, and a similar underestimation of the pro-democracy opposition.
Trump's corrupt scheme to rig 2026 is suddenly falling apart:

*Court strikes down Texas GOP gerrymander
*Indiana GOP lacks votes to redraw map
*Big Dem win in Virginia could give Ds more seats

On the pod, DLCC head Heather Williams is informative on what's next:

I have some nice quotes in this Channel 4 story about the Epstein Files debacle and why it might be the beginning of the end of MAGA.

www.channel4.com/news/why-tru...
Why Trump’s Epstein files reversal could be a MAGA movement turning point
Is the President’s apparent U-turn on the Epstein files a sign of transparency - or is he now feeling under pressure from his party?

The Trump admin and its lackeys spent months fighting the release of the Epstein files and calling them a hoax, after spending months demanding their release and calling them a bombshell.

And Congress all but unanimously released them in a day, while Trump crashed out hard.
November 18, 2025 at 11:23 PM
Your regular reminder that eternal one-party domination by Republicans is not inevitable, Trump is not invincible, and when the far right receives even moderate pushback against their terrible ideas, they usually collapse.
multiple major setbacks for trump's effort to steal the midterm House election. CA passed their gerrymander; VA D win ensures they will pass theirs; IN refused to pass an R map, defying Trump; courts struck down TX map.

right now looks like outcome of all this could be to add *D* seats.
November 18, 2025 at 11:10 PM
I've said for a long time that Marjorie Taylor Greene is not "stupid," but a savvy political operator who knows how to get and keep attention. She's gunning to take the reins of MAGA while also putting distance between her and Trump to avoid fallout from his inevitable meltdown.

I am super excited for this, and it'll be my first time on the other side of an author Q&A. Noelle's book is great, and couldn't be more timely or relevant to the *waves hands* we're going through right now.
Happy to share that Vroman’s is hosting the launch for The Conspiracists: Women, Extremism, and the Lure of Belonging. I’ll be joined by author @rothschildmd.bsky.social, a leading expert on conspiracy movements.

Shades of the scam running in Pasadena just after the fire, when tow truck companies were towing cars left in front of evacuated or burned homes, then holding them until the owner paid up.
NEW—US Park Police w/ DHS officers near DC are increasingly pulling over Black and brown men, leaving their work vans on the side of the parkway + immediately calling a local towing company to take them. Families who just lost their breadwinner are stuck with the bill.

@melbuer.bsky.social reports:
Families of DC-area immigrant drivers snatched by feds stuck with tow bill
Elected officials and activists note work vehicles removed lightning fast, resulting in hundreds in fees.
