I love how the post covid fascination w/ #liminalspaces has led to re-evaluations of some funky old games. #retrogaming www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYoM...

I am old fashioned in that I've never used a smartphone. never walked around in public looking at a screen, connected to the net. don't think I ever will. strictly a dumbphone guy.

oh, you all hated it? lol.

I enjoy most survivorlikes. YAZS' is very barebones mechanically, but scratches an itch for oldschool Robotron-type gameplay.

nice! love me some YAZS. 😁

#filmsky watched ULEE'S GOLD ('97): quietly atmospheric & melancholic family drama. great performances by Fonda & Patricia Richardson. refreshingly understated & uncliched.
some of the line readings had me holding back tears. recommended.👍

tried watching ORLANDO ('92) but gave up about 40 mins in. couldn't tell what vibe the director was going for, unless the vibe was 'omg Tilda Swinton', which definitely came across.

eh, maybe I'll give it another go later. #filmsky

stomach was giving me grief last night, so I only got 2.5 hrs of sleep. oh well, coffee's on. morning y'all. 😵‍💫☕

watched FEARLESS ('93): I generally enjoy Weir's films & liked the set-up for this a lot w/Bridges conveying a barely contained mania. much of the latter half felt like more of a pretentious ramble, tho. as an examination of trauma I don't think this has aged esp. well. #filmsky

#filmsky also, worst Ian McKellan cameo ever as Death from the Seventh Seal (whaaat?) delivering a unnecessary last minute exposition dump. I'm guessing the writers were suffering from nervous exhaustion.

#filmsky watched THE LAST ACTION HERO: curious after hearing about it's trainwreck production. some good things in it (notably Charles Dance & Bridgette Wilson) & a few self-aware moments that almost redeem the whiffy plot. but its really not satire or comedy, it's just a Planet Hollywood ad.

spot-on. the 'AI will end humanity' trope is pro AI propaganda. it's purpose is to divert people from having real conversations about the real damage it's doing. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaFT...

I thought it was edgy & cool when I was younger, as an older male I think it's really just a steaming pile of 70s misogyny & homoerotic weirdness. great soundtrack tho.

imo Kubrick kindof lost his mind around this point. all his later work felt off to me.

I used to, lol. I remember the line 'hoping for the best, preparing for the worst, doing what policemen do, on librium.'

a trucker friend gave me some quality crystal back in the early 90s. I snorted 2 lines and was awake for 80 hrs. pretty psychotic by the last day. I remember making a subgenius type collage, photocopying it & running around downtown Tucson w/a bucket of glue, pasting them everywhere.

growth or change, he was saying the habit of thinking 'I really ought to ______' is essentially the same as not doing ______, but w/a a layer of self-defeating baggage added on. and that these thoughts do not ever change our behavior.

'the quaking mess' was a term coined by Alan Watts to describe the thought game that we'd be better, happier versions of ourselves if we could only change certain things about ourselves, rather the accepting that we are the best version as we are, right now. he wasn't advocating against personal-
