Japanese American secret to long life is...Join the Resistance!

Tak Hoshizaki was a draft resister who was tried for refusing the draft while Japanese Amers were inprisoned in concentration camps (he later served in Korea)

At 100, Mr. Hoshizaki still speaks out against ICE, mass detention and 1/2

I knew Fox News was theater. I just didn't realize it was a repertory theater that recycles actors for different roles.

You'd think a company that had to pay $787,000,000 for deceiving its viewers would be a little more careful about blatantly continuing the practice.

Of course there's no shortage of suppressed speech in this country, but one particular form that I learned about from @kerileighmerritt.bsky.social was just how much abolitionist speech was kept from poor white people in the antebellum South. In many ways they lived under a police state.

Luckily, Sinclair has a helpful database of all their stations, so you can see if they're operating in your area and respond accordingly.

She said it in class while I was giving an oral report based on interviews with mom and grandma. I kept going. Mom was afraid of rocking the boat at that time. In a few years she wasn’t afraid anymore

Justice Sonia Sotomayor appeared to rebuke calls to target “hate speech” in an apparent swipe at Attorney General Pam Bondi.

“Every time I listen to a lawyer-trained representative saying we should criminalize free speech in some way, I think to myself, that law school failed,” said Sotomayor.

The justice, in public remarks, didn’t name the attorney general, who has come under fire for comments to target people over “hate speech.”

The key mistake Ezra Klein makes is thinking the Right ALSO believes we “all have to live together”

How naive/coopted is he to think a conservative movement that proudly and publicly stands for exclusion, deportation, segregation, supremacy and eliminationism believes we “all have to live together”
markharris.bsky.social
Klein earnestly believes we all have to learn to live together even if we "believe different things." For him, it's ONLY about belief and opinion. He is not in a category in which his reproductive rights would be abridged, his marriage would be nullified, his accomplishments dismissed as "DEI." >

This is fascinating. Voters in red states vote for Democrats’ policies but believe they’re Republican policies
hornish.bsky.social
It’s a puzzling thing that happens in Red States.

Progressive policy issues–abortion access, recreational marijuana, Medicaid expansion–pass with wide margins while the GOP sweeps statewide offices and secures state legislative supermajorities.

What's going on? Well, let's talk about "the news."

People missing an important point about folks getting fired for whatever they said about Charlie Kirk: Americans are being conditioned to be snitches on their fellow citizens who don’t toe a party line on what is “allowed” to be expressed. And employers are going along. It’s the new secret police

The fact that Matthew Dowd lost his job for pointing out Charlie Kirk’s hate speech, while Brian Kilmeade openly suggests we should euthanize the homeless and there is zero outrage, shows exactly what is terribly wrong with today’s political mainstream media.
