Back to the other major story of the week, new article from me: the 2000s are back, and this time America isn’t pretending to be the good guys. How non-interventionists and libertarians can approach a new era of intervention.

(Yes it’s been four months since I wrote anything - my bad.)
Interventionism Comes Out of Retirement
Trump's regime change in Venezuela brings America back to the depths of the 2000s, but with much worse intentions.

Also airing the output of someone’s Vision Pro is extremely nauseating, not sure if they realized it was going to be like that.

Pre-record it!

You know I’ve worn a Vision Pro before (cool product, I like VR, so not hating) but man they are for wearing at home alone. I know they put those stupid fake eyes but you look like an idiot wearing any of those things.

Ford CEO: “you never want to let a crisis go to waste… America loves an underdog, right?”

Faint praise from the audience. I don’t think that “America rah-rah” stuff works right now.

It’s been like one month since Abu Dhabi and we are already watching team launches.

And the next logical question is what exactly would the point of that be if we’ve already attacked?

And let’s be real: if he actually DID seize Greenland, they would still do nothing and say it’s disappointing but it’s the reality now and Europe just needs to deal with it.
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), to Bloomberg TV:

“If there is military action against #Greenland, I will be one of the first people to file and co-sponsor a War Powers Resolution. It will pass.”

France is our first and oldest ally.

The fact that they are sending troops to fight against us should actually fill every American with horror and shame.

The line during the primary was “we lose with Cruz, we lose everything with Trump.”

It meant the party getting wiped out in 2016, which we were obviously wrong about, but boy did it become true later.
Ted Cruz in 2016, "We're liable to wake up one morning and Donald Trump if he was President would have nuked Denmark"

"That's not the temperament of a leader to keep this country safe"

The int'l press, let alone the intelligence and diplomatic communities worldwide, know there are sane anti-invasion actors within the Pentagon. I have to believe, aside from literal territorial defense, Arctic Endurance helps grant those folks more leverage against Trump's imperial delusions.

Those are the same side. There are no two countries on earth that would be more thrilled to see the US invade Greenland than Russia and China.
“Which way, Greenland man?”

So I know there’s no “plan” behind any of this, but I’d love to know how we plan to fight Iran, Venezuela, and the entire rest of NATO. We literally just humiliatingly lost a 20-year-long war against the Taliban a few years ago.

In fact, Trump was like the only person in American public life who *praised* the Chinese government for its Tiananmen crackdown.
Trump claims to want to bomb Iran over human rights concerns. This excuse is obviously pretextual, fake and not something Trump has ever expressed interest in until 12 days ago. Nevertheless, as I write, corporate media is uncritically reporting on it as if it’s a sincere and genuine conviction.

It would be a mistake to see Trumpism as authoritarianism imposed on an unwilling nation, as opposed to authoritarianism implemented in a nation with a plurality that is already made up of authoritarian bootlickers who created the context for Trumpism to thrive.

Both Pauls, Tim Scott, Lindsay Graham, Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, Mike Pence, you were saved from a lot of crazies being your president.

(That curse did NOT work on Donald Trump, but I think that’s because he barged in and delivered an unscheduled speech at an event I was at, which is… on brand.)

She is in the region on her book tour. Which I decided not to go to because it’s $200 for two tickets and I actually do like Harris and as you know one of the greatest curses in American politics is being in the same room as me dooms your presidential bid.

maybe an unpopular position on this website but i think the moderate dem focus on ICE training can be, with political pressure, the pathway to more fundamental reforms. rhetorically it is not too hard to move from “more training” to “turns out they’re untrainable and we have to start all over.”

Powell is smart here - they knew of the subpoena since Friday, timed his announcement on Sunday nights before overseas markets open and American markets in the morning so it gets maximum attention without the chance for something else to drown it out.
