The new FVE position statement on preferentially promoting vaccination over culling policies in emerging disease outbreaks is one that I wholeheartedly support. If we are going to maintain public support for disease control in animal populations we need to do this.

In case of doubt with the new UK Avian flu seasonal poultry housing order it DOES NOT apply to flocks <50 birds (providing you are not selling eggs). Its still a good idea to take precautions for protecting your pets of course (as the disease is horrible).

hmm some of these proposals are unworkable - having spent many years working emergency it isn't always possible to give an immediate accurate cost estimate of final treatment (and there is no refund if it dies)

Here’s a disease we can and should eliminate ( it wouldn’t even cost a lot)
🐾 #WorldRabiesDay reminder:
#rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear - but 100% preventable.

❗ Wash the wound with soap & water immediately.
❗ Seek medical advice without delay. A doctor will assess your risk & if needed, start post-exposure vaccination.

Vet colleagues out there.. if you have some itchy camelids or equids these guys want them (or at least their lice). Note they are in the USA though so shipping could be an issue...
Hi! We need lice for our diversity and adaptation project. Specifically, we need lice from zebras, camelids (camels, llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, guanacos) & aardvarks. If you or someone you know might have lice, I'm happy to discuss our inclusive collaboration plans!

"Treating the root cause" is a trope abused in alternative/integrative/functional medicine to sow distrust in mainstream medicine.

Ironically, a scientifically implausible “root cause” is often treated with pseudoscientific approaches.
