Saki, Hisao and Kaito take you through Japanese retro and some modern video games, review them on real hardware, and evaluate how accessible they are to non Japanese speakers and learners alike. Rad!

Ya-ho minna! Welcome to my Rubbish Heap where I review Japanese retro and some modern video games, and tell you whether you can play them with no Japanese ability or not :) www.youtube.com/@SakiEndosRu...
This week, in the 35th Rubbish Heap review, Saki gets really into the weeds of the Japanese GameBoy library with a virtually unknown puzzle/RPG hybrid called Gem Gem. Was it a hidden jewel, or did it end up being a serving of jank-en? youtu.be/pzKK5WI_KOA #gameboy #retrogaming

This week's review on the heap is this quirky, and somewhat inexpensive rare game, which left Saki scratching her head in Himeji City on discovering it, is Gem Gem an antecedent to Pokemon, but from 1991? Find out in this week's review: youtu.be/pzKK5WI_KOA #retrogaming #gameboy #pokemon

A shame this third part in this extensive Hudson Soft retrospective totally flopped on YouTube, with only 500 views or so. Pt3 covers Hudson becoming Multiplatform again and how Hudson and NEC judged the PC Engine's success. Big names, clickbait, and rage bait wins the day on YouTube :( #retrogaming

Currently playing Tales of Phantasia on PS1, dug out my original 1994 SCPH-1010, which had a very short life (and cable) in Japan only before its replacement SCPH-1080 came along in 1995 with the international launch. It's really noticeably smaller, lighter and very cute. #retrogaming #playstation

I know the Saturn rightly gets a lot of praise for its 2D, but in the right hands, the PlayStation could do gorgeous 2D games too. This is Namco's beautiful remaster of Tales of Phantasia released in late 1998 only in Japan. Stunning looking game and good fun too. #playstation #retrogaming #pixelart

Coming up in the coming weeks on the Rubbish Heap for review, another PC Engine Super CD-ROM ROM title that has vanishingly little coverage in the English-speaking world, Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water. #pcengine #nadiathesecretofbluewater #retrogaming

It's always great to see that my humble Rubbish Heap encourages sorting out your consoles and getting out the games and enjoying them. That's what it's about, helping you discover new games to enjoy! And do I spy a Commodore Plus4 tape deck there.... :)
After years of not having used my PC-Engine watching @rubbishheap.bsky.social made me dig it out. Lost video cable, ordered new one, grabbed spare guitar pedal 9v psu, and it goes!

Saint Dragon is the only game I’ve found so far for the 🇯🇵 console (plus a couple of TG16 games). Gunhed is somewhere…

That's right, @rubbishheap.bsky.social is a YouTube channel where the artwork was mostly created in Deluxe Paint on the Amiga! Seemed kinda rad to use a retro computer to make the artwork to make a retro game review channel! #retrogaming #amiga #pixelart #ドット絵

Did you know Hudson made a sequel to acclaimed TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine strategy game Military Madness, on the Super Nintendo? Well, they did, a Japan only exclusive called Earth Light. Does it improve on the original, or is war no longer fun? youtu.be/mLCIDWwMGbI #snes #retrogaming #pcengine

Over on the Rubbish Heap's parent channel, the 3rd instalment on Hudson Soft, which covers their history between 1992 and 1994 and looks at whether NEC and Hudson saw the PC Engine as a success or failure in the end. And lots of games shown! youtu.be/Iy8ZfEEcTtU #retrogaming #pcengine #hudsonsoft

Well that's another anniversary I missed, but woo, Super Mario Bros is 40 years old...a couple of years ago one cold Christmas/New Year in my apartment in Iwate, I sat down with my pencil and some color pencils and recreated the Japanese box art. #retrogaming #supermariobros #artwork #nintendo

Happy 30th to the PlayStation in North America. Sure we got it nearly a year earlier in Japan back then, but to this day, it's one of the most rad systems ever conceived. So here's some new artwork and merch to celebrate that!

Watched this yesterday. Great review and some detail on how you can play this classic JRPG for the PlayStation even if you don’t know any Japanese.

As always, Saki has the information you need to explore classic games from Japan that’s normally hard to get in to over here in the U.K.
My latest review of Popolocrois Monogatari has had 88 people watch it, rad! Haha I love the fact that the rubbish heap is so niche but it would be even more rad if more people knew about the heap and what we're doing. Spread the word, share a link, write a kind word or tune in - it's all good :)

This week on the heap, a review of an early JRPG for the PlayStation that time has slowly forgotten, especially as apart from a cut down release on the PSP it was never released outside of Japan. Saki as always will give you the full low down on Friday! And spoiler alert, it's great! #retrogaming
