Asked a Canadian diplomat in late January how the "51st state" rhetoric was being received in Ottawa.

He responded that the Canadian government was laughing it off, but was very concerned about the possibility of tariffs.

Ottawa's threat assessment seems to have changed.

It's impressive yet unbearably upsetting to watch Zelenskyy hold himself up under extreme pressure against vile bullying and deliberate belittling. All in front of the world's media as he had to translate these exchanges internally before replying clearly in a second language, and staying calm.
