My anecdotal experience(two years older than you, Cornell ‘97) is that the subtext was there. J. J. Sabia, YR and Cornell Review Editor, now professor at SDSU, was surrounded by a coterie of really vile SOBs who repeated eliminationist racist garbage to one other. My Jewdar clanged around them.

We’re hitting the age of consequences; two ex-girlfriends are battling lung cancer or liver cancer (from 30 years of smoking and drinking respectively), and I am thinking of dad’s sextuple bypass at 53, 29 years ago, and my own paunch.

The offices now being cut are the parts of government we use to take care of each other. This is a consistent theme with Trump, starting with the destruction of USAID.

The Office of Special Education. The CDC on-the-ground operations. Attacking vaccines.

It really can't be said enough: the goal of the "anti-woke" movement was always to destroy social norms against bigotry. And it worked. And there's a whole lot of purportedly "left" thinkers & commentators who helped it -- indeed, it couldn't have been done without them.
