Let’s also not forget that the first version of food stamps was the idea of Dwight D. Eisenhower, established in 1959. President Eisenhower looked at a hodgepodge of food programs as people were literally dying of hunger. Hunger wasn’t a political issue, just a matter human decency.
@maddow.msnbc.com @stevebenen.com Mr. Benen, I saw your post about Bill Pulte. I’m a Quadriplegic Wheelchair User shafted in one of Bill Pulte’s “giveaways” in 2019. When I contacted the authorities, I was threatened by email by Pulte’s lawyer. More details available.

Today’s the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act—but the fight for access, dignity, and justice didn’t start in 1990, and it sure as hell didn’t end there.

Anyone can become disabled at any time. So saving Medicaid is survival. For all of us.

I don’t remember ever not being able to read. Books have always been part of my identity.

And somehow, that moment when I find a book that I know is just meant for me, continues to be astonishing every damn time.

Wow. I was raised RC and turned from it at age 12 bc of view of women. When I later understood homophobia and IRS crimes it confirmed my decision. This deceased Pope and this Vatican clearly are not the RC church I knew. Respect for the powerful statements this funeral makes.

So, next moves for Harvard: going tuition-free until tax-exempt status restored, foregoing sponsored research, rethinking endowment investments to minimize tax eligibility, and riding this out. Not to mention throwing the full weight of Harvard law into myriad legal challenges.

On April 9, 1865, Gen. Robert E. Lee surrendered to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant at the Appomattox Court House in Virginia. This historic moment marked the closing of the Civil War to end slavery. 133 Days to Slavery Remembrance Day. #CountDowntoSRD
Not surprised. I’m a Destitute Quadriplegic Wheelchair User who has been ignored for years. Many of these media organizations I’ve come cry #1stAmendment when it sounds good, but won’t bother to learn more about me.

I happen to know that some powerful media orgs were unhappy that AP filed suit; they thought the conflict with the White House would blow over on its own and that AP risked making bad law. The AP's leadership deserves a lot of credit for having proceeded as it did. apnews.com/article/trum...
