A new study shows how much the global oil and gas industry is contributing to renewable energy. And it is ... 1.42%.

This kind of melts away a lot of arguments from the finance sector about why they should keep propping up these companies so they can "transition".
Fossil Fuel Firms Oversee Just 1% of Global Renewable Energy Projects,
A recent comprehensive study conducted by the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (ICTA-UAB) delivers a sobering assessment of the fossil fuel

🖍️ Wij trekken de Rode Lijn. We eisen met 250.000 mensen actie van onze regering tegen de genocide in Gaza! #WijZijnMetMeer #RodeLijn

Rockefeller Brothers Fund provides funding to a huge number of good campaigning organisations, including ones working directly and fearlessly against Israel's genocide. So I don't agree with your analysis here.

"The increases in fossil fuel production [in governments' current plans] would lead to global production levels in 2030 that are 500%, 31%, and 92% higher for coal, oil, and gas, respectively, than the median 1.5ºC-consistent pathway."

We asked the UK advertising watchdog, the ASA, to investigate its own ads for being misleading. Then, to use the universal language of clickbait, this happened (they said their own rules didn't apply to them)

Minor spoiler alert...

They have money. There is childcare in the US for people who can afford it, I assume.

The whole reason for the break up seems to be that one of them has to sacrifice their career on the altar of their marriage & kids.

But shit, just get a child minder. What am I missing.

We went to see The Roses.

I need someone to tell me, why didn't they just get childcare?

Proud and happy to launch our new Users' Guide to bank human rights complaints channels.
We hope it makes these channels more accessible and widely used, and that banks take action as a result!

Here are 10 provocations on climate and energy. Tell me if you agree, disagree or have a nuanced take. Drop your own provocations in reply or quote post.

Start:

1. By 2030, the use of air conditioning will lead to greater increase in electricity demand than data centers. And it's not even close!

Thanks. I'm no climate scientist, but it's not so reassuring that the worst tipping points are only around 3C, since earlier tipping points may well push us there anyway. Being "directionally correct" is still terrifying.
ryanbrightwell.bsky.social
All super interesting, but missing the wood for the trees? A provocation then - big picture, we're already at 1.5 degrees, and even with a rapid solar build-out the likelyhood of avoiding 2 looks slim. Past 2 degrees, tipping points lead to an unlivable climate within a few hundred years or less.

The new ICE song by Jesse Welles nails it.

ICE isn’t recruiting heroes, it’s recruiting the bitter, the rejected, the ones desperate for a badge to cover their failures.

Losers with power become the most dangerous kind.

This is wild, and topping the list is Raiffeisen Bank International. RBI currently earns nearly 50% of its profits from its Russian subsidiary, which has allegedly invested in Russian sovereign debt. But Austria’s Finance Ministry sees no problem here - and just announced it won't take action.

🚨 New research from @b4ukraine.org, Squeezing Putin, and the KSE Institute finds that international banks handed over >$1.2 billion in tax revenues to the Kremlin in 2024.

That's enough to finance over 65,000 contract soldiers for the Russian army.

Of 33 minerals the UK calls 'critical':

⛔6 are not needed at all for a green transition;
🔽15 are only needed in small amounts;
⛏️Only 7 need significant production increases for a move to net zero.

Overall, a net zero transition "can be accommodated" with existing mineral production levels.

So, the Labour govt reaction to Farage's plans to deport hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers was to say it was "pie in the sky".

Their problem with this abhorrent plan is that it's ... impractical? Simply not realistic?

I'm so much more stunned by this than Reform UK's performative cruelty.
