I did sign up for it yesterday, but didn't pluck around with it much. It has more deployment options, but you can't deploy a shinyapp from GitHub without creating a manifest? It also has a limit of 20 active hours for the free tier which is a downgrade, by 5 hours from shinyapps.io

The scrub jay photo really sucked me in to this one. Now that I've read the article, it's pretty ironic that an imperiled species from the global north is the thumbnail image for this.

is shinyapps.io deprecated to make way for Connect Cloud? I'm used to publishing to shinyapps from RStudio but just realized that it's not available in #positron right now.

if i mark all the days where a polyglot bastard was present, hollering their brains out then it brings me back to the dark place of 'no data is real, everything is fake'.

but, also, i saw a black and white warbler, yellow throated warbler, and palm warbler, but they weren't chatty enough to cause observations in birdnet.

ahhh. here's roughly what i have for the same time period. the coastal areas here have been getting a lot of the migrants, but i haven't seen _as_ many yet.

did you pull this data manually or is there another reporting thing in birdnet i'm not aware of?

Omg lattice! We had a module to compare base plotting, lattice, and ggplot then write about which package you liked the most. I think I wrote that I liked lattice because of the 3d plots/viewer.

remember when it felt like we heard talks about the ethical use of machine learning for like half a decade and then LLMs came out and the industry was like "jk"

A month or two ago someone posted a link to their really amazing set of LLM system instructions for writing #rstats code with good tidy/NSE patterns. (They were also good for humans!) Does anyone recall who or where that was?

this would be one of the big pluses for me working for myself. i trust myself with IT stuff a lot more than i trust my employers.

I just went through this in Thailand. I felt really dumb walking around at 7am and wondering why no cafes were open.

On the flip side, I'll give you a list of what working-quietly has gotten me:

discord is so hard to follow. i feel like i can only be active in 2 or 3 *slow* servers or else i'm constantly going to be the guy who has no clue what is going on.

Whoever came up with the 'Copilot' branding must've been the same person that coined 'Redwood National and State Parks'. Constantly explaining the difference between M365 Copilot, Github Copilot, and now Azure OpenAI Copilot endpoints is tiresome.

This week on Counting Stuff. Layoffs! I'm in search for a job now! It sucks but here we are!

Now's the ideal time to give me money in exchange for time or a project. Or if you just have leads in quantitative/data/researchy positions across NYC or remotely
