Flamboyant cuttlefish (Ascarosepion pfefferi)

This one was a struggle... such a complicated little person, but great name!

Next on the list, and one of two incredibly obscure ornithischians from the Kem Kem, an indeterminate iguanodontian! This animal is only known from a singular half-metre-long footprint. More thoughts and size comparison below ⬇️

R.I.P. Mark Norell. One of the most memorable and distinct characters in paleontology. When he said something, it might be totally outrageous, brilliant, or something else, but it always was interesting. He had a curmudgeonly sense of humor and a winning smile. Mark was very kind to me. RIP.

This beauty is an Otago Skink, endemic to Aotearoa NZ. They are one of NZ's largest lizard species and live in schist outcroppings. They can withstand cold winters and have evolved to give birth to live young!

TANECHAN was carefully observing the honeybee's legs. Why did pollen stick to its legs? And why did it form such a round, solid clump on its legs? TANECHAN watched intently, imagining all sorts of possibilities.
