I think the straightforward literalism was the oracle's generosity to a beginner learning how to divine. now that I know more, the expectation that *I* will show up with my intelligence and discernment becomes greater. as a result, readings become more nuanced, powerful, but sometimes also difficult

I used to think that I could do excellent readings simply by defining the question clearly and interpreting the results stringently according to the criteria of that question. but that's actually not true--the oracle can and does "take over" the question or session and you have to be on your toes!

such a big part of divination is building a mental model of what sort of information can actually be communicated to you and at what level, as well as understanding the nature and conduct of the oracle you are consulting
