This was my latest experiment, a very personal translation in italian of the planetary Orphic Hymns.
This was harder than I thought, but now they flow on my tongue the way I wanted them to.

Gonna publish them in ascending Chaldean Order

The letters on the banners hanging from the trumpets are Epsilon, Digamma, and Zeta, which in Ancient Greek Numerals are the numbers 5, 6, and 7 (the respective order of the angels bringing the Three Woes)

(yep, the tiles in the right page have a mistake. It was indeed a mistake, but I kept it while inking: for a monstrous inspiration, it seemed very on point)

The adjective for the horse of the last Knight is χλωρος, literally green, especially in the sense of lively, like the foliage of healthy plants. An interesting choice, for the Knight usually identified as Death.

Did you know that the Third Knight, the Black, is usually called Famine, but should more appropriately be called Inflation (or price scalping...)? If you read their actual description, the connection is obvious!

Another option was to draw the scales (either in black or white pen) after the watercolours, but I preferred a simpler look for them. Are they snakes, or are they worms? For the abyssal prompt, maybe worms are better
saderaveneyes.bsky.social
I made so many mistakes while drawing the snakes (and one even while colouring them!), but I like them. I had many ideas for their colours (options discarded where red/orange and blue/purple), but in the end I like that I went with a more traditional red/green.

And now, something completely different!

Yeah, I'm doing the Angeltober again. Very different from last year, and I've got no idea if I'll manage to keep up, but I'm having so much fun doing those illuminated manuscripts!

Every time I make a mistake drawing or writing I feel bad for having to use correction fluid, now I can feel less guilty knowing every single ancient scribe before me would have happily used it too
majnouna.com
I mean beech please. This is al-Razi, late 9th-early 10th century, written in his spare time as his day job was to be "greatest physician of Islam and the Medieval Ages".
Screenshot of my translation of a correcting fluid recipe: "Erasing writing from paper so that it can be written on again and the deletion is not visible: Sift one dirham ceruse through a piece of silk. Take the same amount of gum arabic, cleared from any twigs or sand, and soak it in a little water – not too much water! – until it melts. Add the sifted ceruse and bray into a smooth paste. Make hazelnut-sized pellets and place them in small clay pots or cleaned-out walnut shells, until dry. When needed, add a drop of clear water to a pellet and massage it in gently with the tip of a clean pen that has no ink residue on it Dab the white over the mistake (the writing must be fully dry). Leave it to dry for an hour, then you can write over [the erased portion] again.

Have people written about how Christian right "traditionalists" often loudly preach ideas that have been deemed heretical since antiquity? What is up with that?

The Right’s idea of free speech is the freedom to call marginalised people slurs without facing public consequences. The Left’s idea of free speech is challenging power and systemic abuse without being arrested. I hope that clears things up for the intellectually disingenuous.

I loved the Alleyman Podcast (the book was a genius idea because podcasts are hard for me to follow, but being able to read it along helped me enormously!), and I'm waiting for the new dice for the Dice Oracle so I can go back practicing with it
saderaveneyes.bsky.social
I use the Alleyman Tarot (+Alleyway Tarot/Oracle of Play/Oracle of Secrets + a few other cards) as my main deck at a community reading each month, and people are really intrigued by it! I call it my baby (a pun, considering how big it is!) and it is absolutely the deck it didn't know I needed!

Curiously it was harder to get a good colour out of these than I did out of husks I collected near London. But after reducing I still got a very attractive brown, the first of what I hope will be monthly plant inks (in a microbatch of 4 bottles lol). It's up in the shop: payhip.com/majnouna/col...
Strained red-brown ink, in the process of being reduced. Bottled ink alongside a sampler written in pen and brush.
