Made risotto tonight for the first time in a couple of years. It wasn’t perfect, but it’s all gone so it must have been OK.

Like, on the outage map, there’s a little trapezoid indicating the outage that pretty much just covers our house. (There’s a somewhat larger area of outage a couple blocks to the NW of us, but the one covering us is JUST US.

Sooooo … the Wintry Mix had just started to fall as we were leaving the gallery to come home AND traffic was awful bc visibility and slush AND just before we got home I got a text message from the electrics to let me know that the power had just failed at the house.

(This is an all-online course, so “not taking up classroom time” isn’t at issue. I’ll also opine that granting a 50% extra time accommodation to a neurodivergent student—allowing 23 minutes for the 20 questions—is not really an accommodation at all.)

Academics: Is it reasonable or sensible to out a 15 minute time limit on a 20 question multiple choice quiz? (Course is 200 level sociology, if that matters.) 45 seconds per question seems excessively tight to me. I also don’t quite understand the pedagogical value of that kind of time limit.

Imagine being blind or in a wheelchair and trying to get nearly anywhere in Louisville these days. Thanks to @wdrb for pointing out a long-standing problem that doesn’t get enough attention. www.wdrb.com/news/not-fai...
'Not fair, Louisville' | Wheelchair users struggle to navigate snow-covered sidewalks
As the snow piles up across Louisville, getting around has become nearly impossible for people who depend on wheelchairs or mobility scooters.

I would really like to make ratatouille (movie/Keller style) again, but the energy investment is just too great. Sigh.

I’m guessing he didn’t say “But I’ll listen to your idea if you contribute $10K to my home deck project,” did he?

Do you think that when they start detaining trans folks I’ll be lucky enough to get sent to one in Utah?

Extra irksome that I have to be dealing with all that while the world, and US democracy, and my ability to exist legally in society, and a dozen other things are all burning down.

I am no longer on our congregation council, and yet I’m still the go-to for the office manager to contact. And we’re trying to clean up messes left by a pastor who quietly took care of all the administrative stuff—until she abruptly left 18 months ago, and a useless interim. Can you tell I’m angry?

Sort of sad how much of my brain space is taken up by tag lines and jingles from the 1970s. “Calgon, take me away!” “Trix are for kids!” “It’s magically delicious!” “Look for the union label …” “I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan …” “Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs!” Etc.

Whereas here, currently, we have great slag-heaps of filthy ice. But good news: we’re due for some “wintry mix” tonight.

In my memory, it all magically sublimates—just disappears! But I think my memory is faulty.

Hey, it got above 32°F here today! Time to turn that compacted snow into delicious slush!

Here’s a tell: when you point to their hypocrisy it doesn't move them.

Hypocrisy is a feature not a bug of autocracy. Because it proves that the rules apply to you but not to them.

Attention gentiles: a fascist government allowing deadly infectious disease to run loose in a concentration camp is an appropriate time to draw a parallel to Anne Frank.
