Sorry but this isn’t the win everyone thinks it is. Offering a lot of money to an elite few does absolutely nothing for the Canadian research landscape as a whole.
After more than a decade of growing his career in cancer research in Australia and then being recruited to a coveted position in the U.S, Canadian-born scientist Wes Wilson packed up his lab at Penn Medical in Philadelphia & has moved 800kms north to Toronto. #Canada

Canada’s brain gain: A scientific migration amid U.S turmoil
More than 600 scientists – about half from the U.S. – ‘raise their hands’ as they compete for positions at a Canadian Hospital.

Pretty sure Franki would also be scared of balloons

In Canada, proposed cuts of 15% across the federal government would have a dramatic effect on already globally decimated research & science.

Join Canada's research & science community and tell PM Mark Carney to preserve the funding promised in 2024.

Each year, more than 20,000 pregnancies end in #stillbirth in the U.S. a devastating crisis that too often goes unseen.

On National Stillbirth Prevention & Awareness Day, join us in raising awareness, supporting families, and driving change.

Wow we submitted a manuscript in July and I checked today and they still don’t have any reviewers accepted. I definitely feel like the publication process has slowed since covid. #newPI #academicchatter

Heads up: ignore samtools dot org, similarly minimap2 dot com and likely others. It's owned by a known phishing site and while the binaries they offer look valid currently (but note they may be serving us different binaries to others), that could change.

Ie: it's not us (Samtools team)! Be warned

If you like transcription regulation and its mechanisms, this WIP list is for you.

I'm sure I've forgotten lots of people, so don't hesitate to let me know so I can add you to the list.

For the EU, this should be a very urgent matter of national security. All EU member states should build on Denmark's wise strategy to phase out Microsoft products

🧪 98% researchers value publishing null/negative results—yet <20% actually submit them.
🗑️ ~€26B wasted in Europe from duplicating unpublished null data

📢 Editors: make space for null results. Make it visible. Science needs it. #OpenScience #ResearchIntegrity #NullResults

Feels like it’s been a while between papers.. but pleased to say our latest is now out! Here we used the side-population technique to isolate trophoblast stem cells from term placentas, showing that in FGR they grow slower, die more easily, and have impaired differentiation. doi.org/10.1016/j.ye...

Until now I thought I was doing a half decent job managing baby, admin, student needs and grant writing. The 4mo sleep regression has hit and OMG I’m dropping all the balls. Grant writing is going to be interesting! Send me all your hacks to survive and still get some work done!

This is how I set it up so glad I’m not missing another option
Yup! Which is why I want to make sure I’m not doing anything wrong but from what I see the latex times new Roman is just a bit different from word
That’s my fear. I responded to the email for clarification that they want all grants written in word then? So we will see what they say. I’ll change if I have to but latex is just so much nicer to write in for me
I actually can’t. They’ve told me they will remove my grant next time…
Or provide a latex template would be helpful!
