Western civilization has nothing on non-western brekkies 🤤
my daily breakfast - a bowl of warm sticky rice with soy sauce, sesame oil and some form of chilli oil topped with a crispy fried egg - is a delight all year round but truly I cannot begin to tell you how much it hits the spot on cold winter mornings, flawless start to the day every time

Anyway, IF illegal content really were restricted to paying X users only, it would be important to get that payment data in order to investigate criminals + get them banned by payment processors

This is another example of how fully western media has internalized the abuser logic of the far right.
Good example of the Dutch version of the American “only the Democrats have agency” thinking problem. A community gazette article on someone who does something nice for immigrants will make far-right voters angry, this sort of polarization is the left’s fault

The story this week is so important, in my view.

It's about the morals of Big Tech and billionaires with riches and power beyond limit - but just far broader than that how far are government and authorities here and around the world willing to let them go.

The end of the line for me as a news reporter was my pieces or my posts being used as launchpads in comments or Quote Tweets for misinformation.

If you're a conspiracy theorist or racist - jump straight in to the top comment spot or use the reporting to gather new followers, spread your message

Read the argument today that people should try to influence the narratives on the other website rather than abandon it.

I respect the view but - you're not influencing anyone.

Legacy media views throttled to death. Someone gave this example.

It's unbelievably hard, nigh on impossible, to influence a zealot in a few tweets. Engaging with the worst trolls in good faith doesn't produce results, it just amplifies them and fuels their hate. They don't want to be influenced by your alternative viewpoint.

IMPORTANT: Paris has more than “vision.” They have clear plans. Including a 5-Year Pedestrian Plan:
- 300 million € invested by 2026
- 100 new hectares of ped space
- 100 more “streets for kids”
- Focus on 0 pedestrian deaths #VisionZero
- Longer ped cross times

Does your city follow smart plans?

and the reason journos won't ask politicians and officials why they're maintaining active paid accounts on the nazi pedobot platform is that they're doing it too
If politicians cite engagement as a reason to stay on Twitter they’re ignorant or lying - it’s hopelessly infiltrated by bad actors and has never, ever been the best place to engage with regular people.

They just mean that journalists use it.
This is the 'engagement' that the Irish government has been using to justify remaining on X. These are the top replies to a randomly chosen recent post.

If they intend to do anything they must do it very soon
There is a far quicker and easier first step here than a ban - simply stop government and Labour accounts using a platform that enables the creation & sharing of CSAM (+ whose owner has long ago weaponised it to promote far right conspiracies theories about the UK, ffs)

this is a fantastic framing of the fascist impulse—and perhaps the best way to understand the pisspants vance persona
So, one of the things I'm trying to get across in this next book, on a really deep level level, is how the nation could never have got this way--where any frightened cop gets to kill anyone--is because of political choices made after 9/11: to become, as I put it, a "bedwetter nation."

I think that this is correct. I think a lot, though, about how attacks on NYC and DC were interpreted by Americans throughout this enormous country as attacks on them ... which coexists today with the deep hatred of the actual people who live in NYC and DC
I've long said that one of the reasons some Americans went so deep into the sadism and cruelty of Gitmo, dark sites and torture after 9/11 was because they were ashamed of how scared they were that day, and how visible to the world that fear was, both of which were unacceptable to US self-image.
