📝Ok this is my social media promise to you, as of June 2025:
🌩️We know things are terrible.
⚠️Sometimes I will share warnings and updates that help us understand the terribleness.
🌻Mostly I will share things that help us all to build a life together that stands against the horrors.

It sounds like that DOGE demand that people justify what they do all day.

Excited to announce on my LinkedIn page that I'm organising a networking meeting between Legionnaires of the Antichrist and Antifa.

Exclusive: Tech billionaire Peter Thiel warned that Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and critics of AI are “legionnaires of the Antichrist” in private lectures that connected government oversight of Silicon Valley to an apocalyptic future.
Inside billionaire Peter Thiel’s private lectures: Warnings of ‘the Antichrist’ and U.S. destruction
In leaked recordings of private lectures by tech billionaire Peter Thiel he argued that “the Antichrist” is likely to take the form of a critic of technology.

The cartoon books published by the Writers and Readers Collective. Their first ever was on Marxism and it created a line of similar books and also an entire genre of science cartoon books.

Reading request! If you could recommend one text that explored the history of an idea/concept in a riveting and surprising way what would it be? Please re-skeet if you can. I know this is a niche ask.

Tell me, tell me. Conceptualisation is my keystone skill.

Sometimes when I meet Greek-speakers from Lebanon, Australia, Romania, I get a very very faint impression of the kind of diaspora community that must have been far far stronger for 19th century Jews. And that Greek diaspora feeling is still very significant!

Well it's an autonomic parasympathy that's laiiiiiife

Thank you both for being so awesome and discussing this 💚

Best to not actually pick up any alleged tear gas or smoke grenade or projectile. Too hot. And there’s been a lot of use of flashbangs. The misfire rate on them is not zero. Only a matter of time before some damn fool bleeds out because they lost a hand

I’m teaching first-year students this quarter, and I was trying to remember how I felt in my first weeks of college. I had completely forgotten that I was so miserably homesick that I considered dropping out.

I'm celebrating Stupid Darwin Day slightly late. Congratulations to all other very poorly people out there.

#OnThisDay in 1861, Charles Darwin wrote to his friend "But I am very poorly today and very stupid and hate everybody and everything." n.pr/3kVZvon
Black-and-white portrait photograph of an older man , darwin, with a long, full white beard and receding hairline, wearing a dark coat. He looks to the right in a serious, contemplative pose. A small piece of handwritten text in cursive ink on paper, difficult to read but appearing to say: “But I am very poorly today & very stupid & hate everybody & everything.”

Thank you, that's really helpful. By the cause do you mean a general nationalist path which could possibly be acceptable to, for example, the Israeli labour movement and left liberals?

The fundamental pitfalls of the arrangement remain the same: there is no real political component, there is no real enforcement mechanism, and there is no real set of steps towards either.

Reminder that if you’d like to work with a writer and narrative person who puts in fun things like this even in a game with a non-historical setting- then I’m available for work at the beginning of the new year

I love writing for games and getting to slip in little bits of historiography. In one storylet I’ve covered ambiguity in material culture, “truth” and “emotional truth”, and the need to research the everyday alongside the exceptional 🫡

So what I like about agroecology is the idea that, actually, everyone who grows or gathers is a scientist.

Because it also fits with what we are starting to re-learn about how scientific and inventive people in the distant past actually were.
loukas.bsky.social
There seems to be a similarity between the idea that "people in the middle ages were stupid" and that "people in non industrialised countries are/were stupid".

This is a very sinister review.
"Castle carvery now has a children's soft play area located inside at a cost of only £3.50 per child. On both occasions the meat has been very tender & fresh."

Pope Leo told U.S. bishops visiting him at the Vatican on Wednesday that they should firmly address how immigrants are being treated by President Donald Trump's hardline policies, attendees said, in the latest push by the pontiff on the issue. For @reuters.com:

Never accept the xenophobic description of the world, that things such as 'strange' cultures or peoples exist. The strange, the xenos, is always something that is the result of a decision to treat people in a particular way.
dov.bsky.social
Some people seem to think that xenophobia is something that can only affect you if you actually physically came from elsewhere. I regret to inform you, as a child of the Vilnius region, that this is extremely false.
