When my kids was about five, we were at a restaurant, and some people got up to leave. He asked why we couldn't eat the fries they left behind, and that was the toughest thing I've had to explain as a parent.
always so funny to me when people are like “how am I supposed to explain Gay to my kids?” my kid asks me way harder shit all the time. “why did they build the road this way? why are some people bad?” I don’t know. please ask me about Gay

The Deer Hunter is the least favorite of the movies I saw to see 100 essential movies. I was ready for the Russian Roulette scene halfway through. I wasn't ready for four more in the second half.

Meryll Streep and Christopher Walken get their start. That's pretty cool. #100movies

Trying to watch all 100 "essential" movies, according to the guy who designed my Temu poster.

Some Like It Hot - fun dialogue. Marilyn Monroe's wardrobe makes the dresses in Gentleman Prefer Blondes look like burqas.

Jack Lemmon auditions to play the Joker for the entire movie. #100movies

The dill and chives grow about 3cm/day. I've been making lots of "guerro dip", which is mayonnaise, sour cream, dill, chives and garlic salt.

Also, I owned a lot of Amazon-made stuff from when I could stomach them. I made:

* A stand that lets you use a Kindle Fire 11 as a laptop
* A charging cradle for Echo earbuds
* A bracket to turn Kindle Fire 11 into a cheap Steam Deck

If Amazon chose differently, I'd put these on Thingiverse.

I modified my Ulock bracket to also hold a pair of glasses. I'm ADHD, and I've lost about seven of the ten pairs of glasses I've owned while biking. This thing is life changing. It incorporates a 1' long bungee cord to hold the glasses in place.

I added a thing to Thingiverse for the first time. It's a bracket for a U-lock. It took me 3-4 hours. I've got one on my regular bike and my folding bike. So far, it works *much* better than the one Kryptonite ships.
Bracket for Kryptonite Combo U-Lock by samguyjones
This is a bracket that mounts on a standard bicycle water bottle holder which holds a Kryptonite Combo U-Lock. You insert the crossbar into the bracket, put the shackle in and lock the bike lock in pl...

If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

I was at @birdhousebooks.bsky.social talking about #LessonsInMagicAndDisaster. They asked me to write a blurb for it, which I was really happy to do. @charliejane.bsky.social

Saw this bumper sticker while I was out walking. It occurred to me that maybe I'd found @weinberg.social 's car.

I tried this recipe for microwavable keto bread that my brother @bluefiddleguy.bsky.social suggested. It's pretty good. I tried it again whipping the egg whites to stiff peaks and folding everything else back in, which I admit was very much missing the point.

Almost done with #LessonsInMagicAndDisaster by @charliejane.bsky.social. By volume, the book is mostly good people doing good things. The hard parts, though, are so shockingly familiar and real that they land hard.

Favorite TV theme songs:

Kimmy Schmidt
Gravity Falls
Game of Thrones
The Office
Futurama
Peacemaker s1
Futurama (wish it was longer)
One Day at a Time (original)
The Jeffersons
Cheers
What are the best TV theme songs of all time? Not the best shows — but the opening songs that immediately get you pumped when you hear the first few notes?

My top 5 (not in order)

Game of Thrones
The Office (US)
Poirot
Narcos
Law & Order

What did I miss?

Lessons about bread:

It's pretty unhealthy.
But it's a little healthier if you make your own flatbread.
But it's a little less healthy (but yummy) if you shallow fry it.
And it's much less healthy if you flip your shallow-friend flatbread with your bare hands.

I keep wanting animated gifs of characters saying specific things.

Jeff Winger in Community: "*He kept not seeing it!*" (in reference to Cuomo's anus-resembling logo)

Ratthi in Murderbot "That's what he calls himself, so I'm just being respectful." (when calling Grok "Mechahitler")
