Overvloed zonder consumptie is verspilling. Mijn stuk in De Standaard: www.standaard.be/opinies/over...

It's fun these days to be able to turn a feeling or thought that passes the mind into a quick comic.

After again seeing some people freak out about primary energy figures, I felt it was time to write this post. The energy transition is, in some ways, easier than it looks.

The primary energy fallacy
Looking at primary energy figures can be little depressing and frightening. You may be forgiven to think "Oh God, fossil fuels are still so dominant, and look at how small renewables still are 😱" This...

With current regulatory conditions - dynamic tariff, intraday optimisation, optional time-varying network tariff starting April - German EV drivers can already reduce charging cost by -68%. Making taxes time-varying as well: -84%. With #V2G: €355 net revenue

Just learned that China is now building windmills with a capacity of 26MW *each*. Unthinkable just a few years ago.

(Existing) heat pumps (and 🔋) are getting smarter by the day: on top of optimising for ☀️ & energy tariffs, these devices can now also be controlled to run the national grid more efficiently.

GBP 5 - 20 / month bonus for participants, a more efficient and therefore cheaper energy system for all.
Good Energy to pilot automated flexibility
Good Energy will pay its customers to automate flexible heat pump and home battery use using its new platform, FlexiRewards.

Have we been duped by the primary energy fallacy?

Critics of renewables often say that we cannot possibly replace the vast amount of fossil fuel we currently use with clean energy.

The good news is that we don’t have to. My article in Medium explains why.

Each year, I hear about all the reasons that EVs will fail, and each year sales keep going up.

On track for just under 17 million in 2024, in line with BNEF forecast's from the start of the year

Charging can be added with remarkable speed.
France has passed the 150,000 public EV charging point mark - a 35% increase on 2023. This includes more and more powerful chargers per site: a better user experience (chance of finding an unoccupied 🔌), while serving more customers and increasing utilisation.
