I'm feeling a bit loose (probably the whisky) but I'm winding up with this live 4 track, 12" EP by the one & only Ry Cooder.

Continuing with The Jam, their 1978 album All Mod Cons is probably my favourite (though In The City is brilliant too).

Anyway, loving hearing this agai

40 years ago my then new girlfriend and I had a kind of non-Valentine Day. This evening we celebrated with a fantastic meal at one of our favourite Edinburgh restaurants, Café St Honore.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has released a trio of whiskies matured in Australian fortified wine casks.

I tried a flight today. If you like sherried whiskies, you'll enjoy these. I didn't buy any of the bottles, but these are decent drams.

Kick It Out, the anti-racism charity, say the language used by Man United's co-owner that Britain has been "colonised" by immigrants should have no place in football.

They note he was wildly inaccurate in his factual claims too.

We enjoyed Nouvelle Vague, a behind the scenes look of the filming of Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless (1960), a landmark of the French New Wave film movement.

And the wonderful people at @filmhouseedinburgh.bsky.social are screening Breathless next week!

Continuing the 70s British Pub Rock R 'n' B theme, here we go with the scintillating 1977 Out Of Their Skulls album by The Pirates. Side 1 is a live recording from Nashville Rooms, April 1977, side 2 was recorded at Rockfield a month later.

I love British R 'n' B & 70s Pub Rock. It laid the foundations for Punk & celebrated stripped back rock 'n' roll.

The Hope & Anchor was a venue where so many great bands of that era performed. Sadly I never got see a gig there, but this album is a fine record of that scene

I'm lucky enough to have lived in and visited South Asia, so it's no surprise that I'm a fan of William Dalrymple. His latest book, The Golden Road, is a highly readable account of ancient India's influence on science, religion, art, technology, etc.
