-Putin has been touting tests of Skyfall and Poseidon this week. (The tests were of nuke-powered, nuke delivery systems-not live warhead detonations)
-The Dept of War isnt responsible for nuke explosive testing. Thats DoEs job.
-The "renovation of existing weapons" continues.

Hooboy that’s a *rough* start for the Dodgers
It’s also sad and frustrating how DoD apparently has tens of billions of dollars in unexpended or unobligated funds. Few other agencies are given such latitude when it comes to spending their appropriations, and even fewer for such large amounts of money.
The contrast with SNAP is deafening.

The White House is stretching well beyond what anyone could claim is legal in order to pay the troops — while simultaneously stretching beyond what’s legal to NOT pay SNAP benefits.
The White House says it’s going to use procurement dollars to illegally pay the troops for rather than do it the legal way of enacting a military pay bill.

You cannot w/ a straight face tell me using procurement dollars to pay the military adheres to the purpose statute and the Antideficiency Act.

Couldn’t agree more. Seeing a paragraph or headline is nice, but full articles are a must for proper context and comprehension. Too few ppl understand that journalists usually don’t write headlines for their stories and so just reading the hed without the text misses the actual story.
Shouting into the void here but in general, if an article is interesting enough to post a screenshot of, it's interesting enough to post a link to so the people you're sharing with can actually read it, tell who wrote it and where it's from, assess its credibility, etc.

I had a similar thought. Hold a nationwide design contest. Let people donate any amount they want, and get their name etched in history. Make it a public project and symbol of national pride.

But instead, they *chose* what is possibly the worst way to do this - illegal, garish, gross, selfish.
There's a world where a president whose term overlaps with the 250th anniversary of independence announces that he wants a WH extension to celebrate. He goes to Congress and gets bipartisan buy-in. Maybe it's part of other big 250th projects with public-private funding. And it's popular. (1/2)
This is hitting me unexpectedly hard. I've long said institutions are people, not buildings, but the White House East Room was a truly beautiful space. Elegant, colorful, suffused with history - I moved through it with a sense of awe and reverence every time.

A travesty serving only selfish vanity.
Breaking News: President Trump is having the White House’s entire East Wing demolished to make way for his $200 million ballroom. The project is far more extensive than he initially let on.

As a historian, I can certify that we are in the bad times. But bad times eventually end.
In the meantime:
• Figure out a small way to help someone
• Figure out a small way to fight back
• Figure out a small place to find joy
• Figure out a small way to grow and thrive

And do it often.
I kinda can’t believe someone is paying Tom Brady presumably millions to offer such insightful in-game commentary such as “the best way to make the playoffs is to win your division against the teams you know best.”

Duh, Tom, duh.

My book, Crisis Averted, is on sale at Amazon for $6. It’s filled with behind-the-scenes characters and suspenseful stories of how outbreaks get stopped. Although it was written before All This, it puts into context what’s at stake if we let public health dissolve. www.amazon.com/Crisis-Avert...

One of my favorite things about living where I do is that about 25% of the houses have spooooooky Halloween decorations out and 25% have beautiful Diwali lights and I think it makes both holidays feel even more rad

I'm confused. Qatar is a MNNA, but how does that status allow them to station their military assets on U.S. soil? Do any other MNNAs or NATO allies do this?

Picture how big the Hoover Dam is. An absolute unit. The Hoover Dam has a power capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW).

The solar farm that the Admin just cancelled could have produces 6.2 GW of power. That's more than 3 Hoover Dams.
SCOOP: The Bureau of Land Management says the largest solar project in Nevada — the Esmeralda 7 mega-farm — has been canceled

The news was quietly dropped via a sudden website update with no public word from any of the companies involved or a statement from the agency

Esmeralda 7 Solar Project Has Been Canceled, BLM Says
It would have delivered a gargantuan 6.2 gigawatts of power.

Hi! My partner is a talented local artist and I was wondering if you had advice on how she could get into local shows (like this, but also exhibitions and such)
The DMV Metro being at a fraction of capacity at peak rush hour is visible proof of the dramatic impact a government shutdown and layoffs have on the workforce.
What an utter loss for the world. I’ll never forget getting to hear she share her passion for her work and for protecting the planet and its wonders. And imitating a chimp in a cathedral.

Thanks for everything, Dr. Jane.
