Horrible week finally coming to an end but one of my dissertation students has some great ideas for their project and it’ll include loads of French rap and football, so not all is terrible.

Protests in Morocco have entered their sixth day after three people were killed near Agadir.
The youth-led movement Gen Z 212 is demanding the government resign, release detained protesters, and invest in healthcare and schools instead of stadiums for upcoming tournaments.

Brussels is bursting out of its borders. That’s helping the rise of the right.
Multilingualism is coming for Flanders — though not everyone likes that idea.

Farid Guendoul (28) was chased by 11 teenagers through Guben in East Germany in 1999. He hurled himself through a glass door and cut an artery. No one helped him and he died bleeding out in the doorway. Farid was from Algeria+had sought asylum to escape the civil war that killed my own grandparents.

In 1991, one year after German reunification, neo-Nazis attacked accommodations for refugees and migrant workers in Hoyerswerda (Hoyerswerda riots), Schwedt, Eberswalde, Eisenhüttenstadt and Elsterwerda. In 1992, racist riots broke out in Rostock-Lichtenhagen, all on the territory of the former GDR.
