Farid Guendoul (28) was chased by 11 teenagers through Guben in East Germany in 1999. He hurled himself through a glass door and cut an artery. No one helped him and he died bleeding out in the doorway. Farid was from Algeria+had sought asylum to escape the civil war that killed my own grandparents.

Neo-Nazis orchestrated the murders of Ayşe Yılmaz (14) and Yeliz Arslan (10) and their grandmother Bahide Arslan (51) in a 1992 firebomb attack in Mölln (Schleswig-Holstein, in West Germany), in which nine other people were injured.

In 1991, one year after German reunification, neo-Nazis attacked accommodations for refugees and migrant workers in Hoyerswerda (Hoyerswerda riots), Schwedt, Eberswalde, Eisenhüttenstadt and Elsterwerda. In 1992, racist riots broke out in Rostock-Lichtenhagen, all on the territory of the former GDR.
