Climate knowledge has been taken hostage to prevent climate action.

“It didn’t happen by accident. It’s the product of a deliberate and systematic assault on knowledge by some of the richest people on Earth. Preventing climate breakdown means protecting ourselves from the storm of lies.”
Dark forces are preventing us fighting the climate crisis – by taking knowledge hostage | George Monbiot
The fundamental problem is this: that most of the means of communication are owned or influenced by the very rich, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

The US conservative movement has organized & funded a massive anti-wind power campaign, based on lies & bullying. Researchers at Brown University have been investigating & revealing that campaign.

Now cons are pressuring the university to shut the investigators down.

She was right! Heat pumps are important, democracy is under threat, and ThirdAct is brilliant.
"Climate is the fire of our lives. And democracy is the door we have to keep unlocked if we are to get to that fire." Proud to be with @thirdactorg.bsky.social, founded a few years ago on that premise (and to be the anonymous person saying "not now, we're in the middle of a coup" in this piece).

Hat tip to Marisa. Of late, it has been possible to see breaking news on BlueSky, but this feels like the first time a really big national story broke on BlueSky.
“There’s still this idea that news is only ‘real’ once it’s confirmed by big corporate outlets. After all, could one woman with absolutely zero institutional backing in leggings and a sweatshirt in her NYC apartment really be the one to break such an important story? Now we know the answer is yes.”
Breaking: The Handbasket is first to report catastrophic OMB funding memo

Now Premier Ford wants to ban lawsuits against the province if a cyclist is killed or injured on a street where lanes are removed.
