The fact is that fanfic writers are just... writers. Some are good. Some are bad. Some are successful despite being bad. Some are *mind-blowingly* bad and the author sells millions anyway. This is a thing across all genres, no matter how the story got started.

it just creates a bad environment overall. i have SO many critiques of s1 and s2 that i don't feel like posting because it's boring when everyone posts shitty critiques and there's more negative than positive fan discourse.

i think there's this constant need to prove that we're "real" tolkien fans who know the books or something. the faux critique that gets posted about most SFF rarely actually explores the show in a nuanced way or understands what an adaptation is trying to do.
