#PortfolioDay I'm a paleo enthusiast and aspiring artist, exploring different styles with digital art.
A red Supersaurus leaning on a conifer tree, looking over a forest, at reddish-pink clouds floating over the distant hills. A Zhejiangopterus standing on a mountaintop, reaching out its broken wing towards the mountains, hills and clouds below. An inscription in Chinese says “My First Visit to the Western Hill” and the date for June 15th, 2025 in the lunar calendar. A Microraptor wings open, leaping forward close to the ground, kicking up ginkgo leaves behind it.

A new portrait of Monolophosaurus. The crest here is more voluminous than most reconstructions, exploring the idea that the underlying bone might have been anchoring a larger pneumatised casque.
#SciArt
A digital portrait of a large carnivorous dinosaur in a forest setting. The dinosaur has a large boney crest above its snout and eyes, and large folds of skin hanging around its neck and jaws. The dinosaur is mostly earthy brown, but with brighter blues and pinks around the eyes and throat.

this is so cool, the brightest part of the water is darker than the egret but brighter than the egret's reflection, presumably because the sky is even brighter and the water's reflecting it 😩😩😩

Here's a #pen and #watercolour pencil #painting I finished last week (just in time for #TetZooCon). It was commissioned by Dr Dave Hone and depicts a pair of #Confuciusornis tail feathers being obscured by the leaves of the #Ginkgo apodes tree it is sat in. #paleoart
Two long red tail feathers take up the centre of the picture, extending from the top margin to about 2/3 of the aay down They are long, narrow, parallel to each other and have teardrop shaped tips. They are obscured by clusters of lobed leaves extending from branches, with some fruit clusters hanging like pendulums from leaf clusters in the top of the image. The sun is shining through from the background.

Was intended to be just a sketch but I spent 2 or 3 too many weeks on it.

Happy 120th birthday to Tyrannosaurus rex and Albertosaurus sarcophagus, two of the most iconic of all predatory dinosaurs! Here’s some vintage and modern artwork of the two to celebrate how far we’ve come.

(James E Allen 1934, Beth Zaiken 2024, Paul Geraghty 1965, Joschua Knüppe 2025)
A bronze-orangeish Tyrannosaurus with a striking green eye prowls down a sandy riverside. Its dragging tail kicks up dust as it goes, and its jaws drip with streams of saliva. Its arms are curled beneath the chest, held at odd angles that further the strange and almost unnatural menace it exudes. The imposing form of a green-grey Tyrannosaurus strides into frame, moving across a sandy shore as its path converges with a Triceratops. The two animals acknowledge each other with measured aggression, subtle but clear. A hefty, amphibian-like tyrannosaur with a boxy, squared off snout. It stands with its back to the viewer, head turned back with a disdainful expression. The tail coils into a tight curve behind it. A lightly coloured Albertosaurus with simple but striking red and black markings on the face moves through a wet, oily shore. Its body is stained with oil, and it had a displeased demeanour. A swirl of clouds in the sky behind it suggests early morning or late evening, casting the scene in a dim reddish hue.
