scientific community is trained in reading papers presented as defense of preset conclusions (or hypotheses to the same effect) and struggles to react meaningfully to exploratory research written in an exploratory way. "what if this is a thing? let's see. huh turns out it isn't!" baffles reviewers.

The history of modern political philosophy can be summed up like this: all humans were created equal, and so should be treated thusly. This is the proclaimed ideal. Then, in practice, an ever more nuanced web of exceptions has been spun, through which the universal human is defined ever narrower
the thing is, universal human rights are only universal if they include everyone, even the groups of people society has decided are less important (children, prisoners, people with names you can't pronounce, homeless people, the unemployed, disabled people who don't make good inspiration porn, etc)

Look I know this is going to be hard here but rigid adherence to lies about Covid is going to push you to the right. It has to. The eugenicist ideas that we can abandon the vulnerable and that vaccine mandates and lockdowns weren’t necessary because only “those people” died can never be democratic.
NEW: This week, Daily Show host Jon Stewart introduced his audience to Jenin Younes, describing her as a courageous civil rights attorney who had been canceled by both the right and left and therefore “must be doing something right.”

Really, she spent years undermining public health—and Democrats.

Scientific conferences are where the exchange of important ideas happen. It’s where new collaborations come forth and innovation dreamed up. It’s really disheartening that NIH scientists and representatives are being banned from attending. www.reuters.com/business/hea...

It’s real. We exist. We’re a growing class of people (which is why folks want to look away). And I’ll never be quiet about it.
