#Merz #Miosga

In all honesty, it’s not rhetoric any more. It’s not narrative. I’ve experienced more racism in the last 4 months than I can ever remember. The wheels are off in the UK and it’s being led by 3 political parties.

A sad day but also a celebratory one for the successes of this brilliant project—whatever comes next will kick yet more palaeographical ass.

Today is the final day for BretPal 1.0. Stay tuned for publication announcements and (hopefully) BretPal 2.0!

When I started BretPal (almost two years ago 😪), I had one very clear research goal: to establish parameters for Breton Caroline minuscule

The Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies is hiring three postdoctoral researchers.

We investigate the causes and mechanisms that contribute to the persistence of strong asymmetrical dependencies across historical and contemporary contexts.

Pre-modern perspectives are very welcome!

On the morning of Keir Starmer's conference speech here's a new post on an odd psychopathology in British politics - our main parties don't like the people who vote for them - the dreaded Professional Managerial Class. And so they are acting out like a divorced dad seeking cooler voters. 1/n

There are certain steps of the publishing journey (rejections, being on sub, etc.) that writers often keep quiet, and I get why. But I wish we shared all of it, so that we can celebrate all of one another's milestones—not only publishing and winning awards. They're all accomplishments!

A very big Onion announcement:

The Onion has spent the last two months working on a masterpiece.

It's a documentary titled Jeffrey Epstein: Bad Pedophile.

It's so good, in fact, we were set to release it in theatres nationwide on October 2nd.

Then two weeks ago, Charlie Kirk was shot.

the booker prize judges make a lot of fuss about having to read 153 books. but assuming an average weight of 750g per book, that comes in at 115kg of literature - or just under the weight of a single adult male ostrich

If you, like me, are the parent of a neuro-atypical child dreading this autism press conference, please remember: These are the people hurting our kids. Not us. They are the ones stigmatizing and pathologizing them. They are the ones peddling untested science. And we should be very, very angry.

More manuscripts are coming to the British Library's online site www.bl.uk/collection/d...

And, erm, how can I say this nicely? If you have a cheeky script that downloads images from the site, please build in some delays so that you don't kill the servers. Play nice, innit!

I don’t have a lot of sympathy for very wealthy, privileged people who are capitulating to fascism and/or staying silent because they’re “scared.” People are being dragged out of their homes and people who could be next are *still* speaking up. Silence won’t protect you but it emboldens them
