I would swallow my pride
I would choke on the rinds
But the lack thereof would leave me empty inside

Swallow my doubt, turn it inside out
Find nothin' but faith in nothing
Wanna put my tender, heart in a blender

Watch it spin round to a beautiful oblivion
Rendezvous, then I'm through with you

Nothing reinforces my view that we should abolish handshakes quite like observing handwashing (or not) decisions in the men’s room at an academic conference at which handshakes abound.

Episcopalian here. I love my church, but seriously, we are so far from innocent and/or pure.

gotta respect the old mainline church library. A lost art. A hidden gem. Hasn’t been used in 40 years. “More than a carpenter” right next to Johnson’s “she who is”

it is absolutely true that "the gospel is political but not partisan" insofar as per se support for a given political party is not the content of the gospel

but if that becomes "one party supports pepper spraying the baby, so you can't talk about that or you're being partisan" we should all go home

A generous review of my book, Ruptured Bodies: A Theology of the Church Divided from Bishop Bill Franklin.
Should Full Communion Still Be the Goal? - The Living Church
The voice of a new generation of ecumenical theologians in the United States, Eugene Schlesinger provides a groundbreaking response to the past two generations of ecumenists.

I have to believe these people don’t actually believe in God because if they did they wouldn’t be so cavalier with such blatant blasphemy.
Add a dose of propaganda to your morning coffee.. This smells of Russian-like “special operation”

Two teenage boys just came by trick or treating.

One was dressed as Marty McFly, the other as a physician.

Turns out it was *not* a Doc and Marty couples costume, though.

Me, a Thomist: ”When the hell is the agent intellect going to show up?”
Watching Phantasm (1979) while waiting for Trick or Treaters.

It has all the trappings of a parody, but I know it’s earnest.

I just spent nearly two weeks surrounded by people speaking (multiple) different languages than me and it was utterly fantastic.

It must be such a sad, pathetic little existence to be so closed off to the beautiful diversity of...reality.
Vance says it is "totally reasonable and acceptable" for people to not want to live next door to people who speak a different language than they do

Thanks for the shout out! And, yes, I do think that I find a pretty good method of threading the needle between empirical realism and (necessarily idealized) theological commitments in the book.
Kelli actually offered comments on chapter three of the book when I was working on it!
