they didn’t leak it to make the shooter look innocent, but to make the victim look guilty. not guilty of a crime. guilty of having a visibly queer wife. guilty of liberalism. guilty of opposing the regime. they don’t seek to exonerate themselves, only to demonstrate who deserves to die.
In the video that the shooter took, which I believe was leaked to be exculpatory, he appears to yell “fucking bitch” after he shoots Renee Good.

The goal is not to convince anyone that Renee Good was actually guilty of anything according to any objective standard of the law. Rather, the goal is to undermine the very idea that there could ever be any objective standard of guilt of innocence, beyond whether one supports or opposes the regime.

I also think that, while it will play out well on X, this is another instance where they DRAMATICALLY overestimate how much average Americans are depraved freaks like them.
I do not think that they earnestly believe this video will convince anyone that the ICE agent was in danger and acted in self-defense. It's about stating that certain people - in this case, a queer woman activist - are undesirables who may be murdered by the state with impunity.
