A story, in two parts.

Wanted to see if ChatGPT maybe could possibly help with streamlining coloring sheets for designs I'd already done...

well, you be the judge as to how successful it is.
A ChatGPT prompt with a hand drawn picture of Hildegard of Bingen and the text "Recreate this image exactly as is except in outlines like a coloring sheet" ChatGPT says "image created" and it's a line art drawing of a frog.

Finally watched the new Captain America and Thunderbolts and I hate to admit I think the latter much better.

Again, the question of whether abusive language and behavior toward a non sentient thing that resembles a human is neutral or bad is not about whether it harms the object, but whether it malforms the human and causes them to treat other humans worse as a result.

Sorry! “That salary” was a reference to an earlier post about physicians not faculty.

NEW: I spoke to clergy and faith leaders who've joined protests at the Chicago-area ICE facility.

Three say they've been shot with pepper balls, sometimes while praying.

All say ICE is also violating their religious freedom, and one is arguing it in court. religionnews.com/2025/10/07/i...
Religious protesters say ICE threatens religious freedom in Chicago
(RNS) — Despite potential danger, religious leaders and faith activists have been a visible presence at Chicago-area ICE protests, some waving signs with slogans such as ‘Love thy neighbor’ and ‘Who w...

It’s wild to me how many people seem to think that standing up to a repressive regime is worthwhile only up to the point where you may face consequences beyond the inconvenience of standing in the sun for four hours.
theodramatist.com
The point is anyone who collars up to go be part of resistance probably had better be ready to get shot. Or arrested. Or roughed up. That’s part of the thing!
theodramatist.com
Also funny some of the people in the comments being like “nun uh, the police have no qualms about shooting a priest” and like—duh. The danger doesn’t lie in preventing state violence. The danger comes in what happens when state violence is brought against visible clergy.
theodramatist.com
It’s interesting the power of the collar isn’t it—often the clergy who are on the front lines in this stuff are not priests per se (elders, pastors, yes but often not Catholic or episcopal clergy), but there’s great symbolic power in clericals.

The most dangerous person at a protest for a regime is a priest in a collar.

yeah, they have it roughly backwards. the ideal protester isnt an armed cadre who only uses signal, its a retired teacher and grandmother of three who makes the security services decide whether they’re comfortable batoning her to get by

As I’ve said in other posts, I’m *not* arguing that AI is the same thing as the droids. I don’t think it’s sentient at all.

But the slur *is* now being applied to actual humans with prosthetics (and btw Star Wars deals with that anti cyborg prejudice too)
theodramatist.com
I’m not stating this well: a subtle point of Clone Wars seemed to be that the clones and droids had much more in common than they acknowledged and it was sadly ironic the clones had to so utterly depersonalize the droids.
theodramatist.com
Like, it had to have been used ironically that the clones, who were the primary users of the term, would in many episodes have to content with dehumanization. A point of commentary was that the battle droids were not actually the same as drones.
theodramatist.com
It is kind of wild that “clanker,” which I assume is taken from Clone Wars, is the slur used against ai since the just under the surface pint that should have been extracted from that use in Star Wars was one of ironically critiquing the depersonalization of droids that were for all intents sentient

(That salary being the low end of 200k btw)
theodramatist.com
When people argue that university professors, who almost certainly have put in many more years for education than MDs deserve a median salary of almost half a mil, then I’ll take that argument seriously.
theodramatist.com
Provider salaries are absolutely part of the problem of the cost of American medical care.
theodramatist.com
Point being, even if med school stayed expensive, median salary could be half that and expect people to pay back over four years rather than two and they’re still living comfortably upper middle class lives.
theodramatist.com
As others posted, the median salary is like $375k now, and the primary rationales are “but they put in lots of time” and “med school is expensive”

Ok, but at that salary you can pay back $200k of med school bills in two years while living on $100k.

The doctor makes $200k a year because they charge thousands of dollars more for a procedure than they should. The health insurance CEO doesn’t want to pay it and tries to dump it on you. You fight with the health insurance over *who* pays the high cost and not *why* the cost is high.
powdercuff.bsky.social
The doctor making 200k a year is not your enemy. The health insurance CEO making millions per year is. Let’s focus up.

I sadly don’t know. I know we have a resident parish historian but I’m not sure how formally that position exists in most places.
