I understand this sentiment and I don’t begrudge it of anybody. I feel it myself sometimes too. But that feeling also crushes me and I feel an obligation to keep pushing myself away from the idea that Donald Trump and his Republicans’ idea of What Politics Is Now has won and I have to accept it.
i am, i think, generally a pretty congenial center-left voter. i’m not a radical. i’m not a reactionary. but i have spent the last ten years watching the fed government be taken over by right wing reactionaries and i am increasingly convinced we should use the tools they are building against them
if republicans and a handful of democrats in congress are willing to authorize a full blown paramilitary guard, and we do nothing to stop them well, i want control of that guard. drag the heritage foundation board into guantanamo. deport jesse watters to CECOT if laws don’t matter, they don’t matter

kidnapping a 5 year old to bait his father and then shipping them thousands of miles away should put you in prison, yes, but it should also cause every friend and family member you have ever had to permanently reject you in disgrace, and if they don’t, they share your shame

Please.

For the sake of my sanity.
Deactivate your accounts if you're not going to bother curating them properly.

This is actively counterproductive.
I joined agriculture leaders from across the state today in Mankato for the Minnesota Ag Expo. Minnesota farmers are the backbone of our economy, and we must ensure they have what they need to thrive—strong markets and stable trade policies.

If documents describing a conspiracy by a federal agency to violate the Constitution don’t result in collective action by Dems to (1) refuse to fund another cent of its operations and (2) dismantle the agency as quickly as circumstances allow, they’re even dumber than ICE apparently thinks they are

Look, I get it, politics is politics.

But know your audiences and read the room.

The app for dedicated partisan liberals *might* not be the place to post this after ICE has begun using children as hostages and decoys.

This is the shit that inspires legends of your evil and comeuppance.

The Argylls at Glencoe showed more humanity.
Minnesota: "School officials say the [5-year-old] child was used as bait. They say [ICE] agents made little Liam knock on the door to ask to be let in in order to see if anyone else was home."

we are drowning in lawyers who just want to give up if they don't have the overwhelming advantage they ordinarily do against civilians. i don't care about your conviction rate. indict the person who commits the very bad crime on camera in the public eye

@haydonmp.bsky.social made a good point some time back.

Societies *change* when you start threatening their children openly.
ICE is getting down to some real foundational evil here. Accepting someone’s hospitality and then brutalizing them. Snatching babies.

Right you don't dismantle the Stasi because you have disagreements about policing and security, you dismantle the Stasi because it's the fucking Stasi.

I would argue that the case for dismantling ICE has, at this point, virtually nothing to do with larger questions of immigration enforcement and reform, it's just clearly incompatible with a free and democratic society to maintain a secret police force with sweeping and arbitrary authority.
Senator Gallego weighs in as well. Note that at the start of 2025 he was considered a *moderate* on immigration and co-sponsored the Laken Riley Act. Him and many other Dems have been increasingly horrified at what ICE is doing and shifted away from a "more enforcement" focus.

it doesn't matter if you don't want to have this fight, it doesn't even matter if it's not politically optimal to have this fight

the fight is here and sitting it out is not an option

🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

Honestly, I think this is for the best.

I'd rather know who the cowards are than not.
NEWS: While Hakeem Jeffries has announced he's opposing the DHS/ICE funding bill tomorrow, his team is not whipping the vote. Several frontliners are expected to vote yes. There's a difference in leadership between personal vote decisions & unifying the caucus.
From me:

Jeffries Won’t Whip Vote Against ICE Funding - The American Prospect
While the House Democratic leader announced personal opposition to a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security, he won’t pressure his colleagues to do the same.

Just flagrantly and facially unconstitutional.

Whoever wrote the memo ought to be disbarred.

The courts actually respected Bivins (or the 4th, 8th, and 9th Amendments) this would be a clear case.

As is, the Eighth Circuit has made clear they think this is fine.

came to the realization (at lunch with @amannes.bsky.social, expert in all the Vices) that one reason Biden was so unfortunately bound to the idea that Republican senators were savable is because as a young widower in a new job he experienced the senate and his colleagues as a place of comfort.

This seems right to me. I suspect that Washington was seriously considering some sort of quick, “cheap” scheme to create facts-on-the-ground but the Danes and their allies failed to preform the expected fecklessness necessary for such a thing to work. Hence the pivot to ham-fisted economic coercion
Let's save crashing out about Greenland until we actually see some movement from US assets that would indicate staging for an op. With a few hundred European troops and a couple warships already in theatre or imminently arriving, a clandestine SOF raid isn't going to cut it anymore.
