Anyway. All of us working in health evidence and info use MMWR at one point or another. This negatively affects people in Canada and our healthcare system as well.

With a ceasefire possibly going into effect today, we're posting this article from our new print issue, talking to five Torontonians about their experiences opposing the genocide over the last two years.
In Their Own Words: Torontonians on Opposing the Genocide for Two Years
We asked five Torontonians what life has been like here while witnessing and opposing Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

I want to read more history that is unconnected to anything that I might end up writing about.

Full solidarity with the flotilla, which represents the very best of humanity.

And eternal shame to the European states who refused to protect it from Israeli assault and establish a corridor for aid to Gaza.

Canadian physician Yipeng Ge has been on the ground in Gaza during the genocide.

A year and a half later, he joined me and reflected on what he saw — and what the people are doing in the face of government complicity.

Here’s a sneak peek of our conversation:

As others, including Ireland, rush to help their citizens involved with the flotilla, here’s what Canada’s government told me of the six Canadians on board:

“The Government of Canada is not able to guarantee the safety of Canadian travelers, or to provide them with security and protection abroad.”

Hi Rachel, We will get back to you asap. Thanks,

In a follow up:

Please see our response:
The Government of Canada is not able to guarantee the safety of Canadian travelers, or to provide them with security and protection abroad. The decision to travel is personal, and individuals are responsible for their own safety abroad. Global Affairs Canada (GAC) advises Canadians avoid all travel to Palestine due to the ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip and the unpredictable security situation in the West Bank. More information is available on our travel advice webpage.
While the Goverment of Canada has no plans to accompany the flotilla, this does not in any way detract from Canada's position that humanitarian assistance into Gaza must be immediately scaled-up to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation. We continue to urge Israel to allow the immediate entry of UN-coordinated humanitarian assistance, via land crossings, into and throughout Gaza.
Since October 2023, Canada has committed more than $400 million in international assistance in response to the current crises in Palestine.
The immediate priority must be a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and a sustained influx in UN-led humanitarian aid. Canada is committed to continue

I appreciate the intention here, but as an "international friend" I must say it makes no sense for anyone to visit the US right now. I have avoided it for years, and I will continue to do so. The rule of law, such as it was, has been suspended. Crossing that border is an unnecessary risk.

International friends: the cities they hate, put them on a list of best travel destinations, best representations of the greatness of this place. Chicago! New Orleans! L.A.! And of course Philly! Whew, absolutely the vibes.
