Really great here from @tspampatti.bsky.social. I have a plan for a set of projects designed to start empirically exploring these directions that I’m really excited about. Happy to discuss/collaborate on those plans!

If this is helpful for anyone going on the social psych tenure track job market in US, here are my Colby (in 2018) and UIC (2023) statements: osf.io/ef7s3/files/...

My lab website has links to other people's materials. Of course the markets were very different back then.

So no federal funding for me. This really helps science.

BIG: A new executive order changes fundamentally how the U.S. awards research grants, giving oversight to political appointees in coordination with OMB.

All new grant opportunities are paused until these appointees are in place.

It feels like every new psych job is either computational or ai-based research. Doesn’t bode well for people who do other great research that doesn’t fall into these niche categories.

Boards of Trustees ***LIKE*** the Trump demands. They ***AGREE*** with them.

They like the idea of putting the screws on activist, lefty, and Muslim students. They like the idea of a whiter student body and conservative curriculum. They want these things and think $200 million is a fair price.

Newly accepted in PSPB! We examined whether Asian and Black Americans perceived one another through a zero-sum lens. Inspired by the SCOTUS affirmative action decisions, I wanted to know if Asians thought they were losing to Black people and how this mindset affects coalition

BREAKING: Scientists are staging a “science fair” in the lobby of a Congressional building to tell elected officials about the critical knowledge the US will lose because their research grants have been canceled.

In a study of professors, women got 378 new work requests over 4 weeks vs 118 for men. Women spent more time on service, advising & teaching; men on research. Orgs should track who is taking extra duties & ensure they are rewarded and distributed fairly. www.forbes.com/sites/kimels...
Being Too Helpful At Work Can Hurt Your Career—Here’s How To Say No
Women are more likely to take on behind-the-scenes duties at work—extra tasks like onboarding or event planning—and it's hurting their careers. Here's how to say no.

Some very exciting life news: as of yesterday, I have officially accepted a TT assistant professor position at Monmouth University! Feeling very excited about what comes next and I thank everyone who has supported me throughout the years in achieving this!

Has anyone refinanced their federal student loans? If so, was it worth it? The unfortunate side of graduating is that now I must pay and I’m trying to figure out the best path forward.

The highlighted speaks perfectly to the effects of informational gist on misinformation susceptibility by Langdon and colleagues. I just had hoped prominent media wouldn’t perpetuate this kind of irresponsible reporting.

We are currently watching the best researchers science has to offer systematically be stripped of their ability to share critical knowledge - Franki is firmly in that category. This is horrifying to watch unravel. All the best to Franki and everyone affected.

I'm disappointed to share that my NSF career grant on anti-Asian dehumanization was terminated. This affects ongoing project activities, which have shown great progress so far, and support for my research team and more.

I'm sad to share that the hiring of the postdoc role is currently on pause.

I just found out today that another post doc I was a finalist for had to be removed due to funding cuts. I cannot understate just how hard it is to be searching for academic positions under this administration.

My heart goes out to all folks who have had their funding cut. May your research thrive.

Truly sorry to hear this, Franki

If you’re comfortable, here’s a form to submit info on terminated NSF grants for greater collective transparency and insight among grantees:

Kudos to @scott-delaney.bsky.social for putting together.

airtable.com/appGKlSVeXni...
Please use this form to submit information identifying specific NSF grants that have been cancelled for any reason after January 20, 2025.

We are tracking these grants to increase transparency, organize affected PIs, and facilitate responses, including via litigation. Please share the form as widely as possible with your networks.

We are actively building a pipeline to organize these terminations and will soon have a tracker akin to our NIH grant tracker at https://airtable.com/appjhyo9NTvJLocRy/shrNto1NNp9eJlgpA

WE WILL NOT DISCLOSE THE IDENTITY OF ANYONE WHO USES THIS FORM TO PROVIDE INFORMATION. We will keep your identity confidential.

These resources are maintained by Noam Ross of rOpenSci and Scott Delaney of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, with input and support from additional volunteers. For any questions, please contact Scott Delaney on Signal (sdelaney.84).

Extremely disappointing & cowardly. The American Psychological Association is rescinding diversity requirements. Not due to any actual mandate from the federal government, but only because it may *someday* face pressure from the government www.nytimes.com/2025/03/27/h...
