10/10 - Creature Feature/Body Horror extravaganza.
✅The actors do the heavy lifting with adding tension.
✅World-class practical effects that set the standard for the era.
✅Terrifying premise executed in a way that keeps you wondering even on rewatches.

"Frighteners" (1996)

5/10 - Wackyish Ghost story?
❌Tonal issues. The movie can't decide if it wants to be wacky or serious.
❌Most VFX are very dated-looking, though the makeup is still good at least!
❌Acting was okay but most of the actors were clearly phoning it in.

This year the Trick-or-Treaters in our neighborhood will be treated to a "loot bag" of pirate coins, gems, trail rations (chips and candy), and a potion (little drink bottle). I love being "that house." It's pricy but the kids deserve it. <3

"The VVitch." (2015)

10/10 - Folktale horror period piece.
✅Acting is phenomenal. Dunno how they got those kids to speak in perfect old english.
✅Stunning visuals, costumes, attention to details.
✅The horror aspect is multifaceted, so your skin crawls at almost every scene.

"An American Werewolf in London." (1981)

10/10 - Creature feature classic.
✅Acting is on point.
✅Plot is straightforward so you get right into the monster stuff.
✅Special effects and makeup still hold up to this day, 40 years later.

This Tumblr user summarizes something I've been feeling/doing lately. Against everything going on, it somehow feels helpful.

Small talk isn't to get to know a person. It's just a greeting to affirm you're buddies in the universe. I am motivated by wanting the other person to know I am friendly, so I have gotten pretty decent at small tall when I used to hate it.

4/10 - Advertised as a folk horror movie but it's just not.
✅Good actors, even the child actor was decent.
❌Plot started out intriguing but goes off the rails and disappears.
❌"Sound" is central to theme, but then the theme vanishes.
❌Very misleading trailer.

Agreed. The social media experiment has been going on for years and the only conclusion I can come to is that it has made us worse people with greater reach but less connection than ever, and that's before taking into consideration the manipulative way in which those in power use it to control info.
