I mean, the erdos problems have flipped to "solved".

People ignore/mock the "I get value out of it" comments out of hand (see original post), but here's an outside person who can evaluate the credibility of the results saying the same thing. I'm not sure what *would* count as evidence for you.
The "legal sense" bit is meant to differentiate problems:

1. Is model training "fair use", regardless of license terms?
2. Practically, how to handle GPL in a world with RAG?
3. Are model outputs subject to all terms of code included in training data?
4. Training on synthetic data under ^

etc.
I said I fully hope those lawsuits prevail. The compressive abilities of LLM's + the way RAG operates at present goes beyond just spiritual violations of GPL into "all your LLM-generated code is GPL tainted" territory.

I'm also not an IP lawyer though, and only so much nuance fits in 140 chars.
The most common license on GitHub is MIT. Non-commercial licenses are actually pretty uncommon. GPLv2/v3 "viral" licenses are thornier, and I hope the lawsuit there bares this out.

Also, nothing about the license speaks to "fair/transformative use" in the legal sense. That's the difficult problem.
That's one of the hard knots to untie. I think model training is a transformative work wrt fair use, but in a IP-holders-and-legal-system-weren't-prepared way, since this is a fairly novel dilemma. We absolutely need new controls in place and retroactive payments to certain types of IP holders.
Read his post. Multiple erdos problems flipped from "open" to "solved". The LLMs didn't solve any novel problems, but *human-designed systems with LLMs as a tool* searched for partial solutions and put them together into verifiable solutions. I'm just saying don't take *my* word that this has value.
I know the standard Bluesky reaction to anything LLM related is knee jerk negativity as if declaring them "cringe" is going to roll back the clock, but genuine geniuses such as Terry Tao see value as well *in the right circumstances*. If that's not evidence, what is?

People are being deceived by the kiss-ass personas for engagement and the grifters drive me insane. But there's value for people who know what they do well and use them as a tool. Don't have it vibe-physics or stand in for human interaction, but I'll pay $20/month for Claude to save me 5-10 hrs.
Okay, I have a bit of time and will take the bait.

I have kids, and I'm working on a side project after they're asleep. LLM's save me time handling annoying but useful dependencies so I can focus on the challenging and important parts. How is this inherently dumb? Is there no middle ground?
They're destroying the jobs!

They're suppressing the votes!

They're violating the rights of the people who live here!
Sure, kids will die and the US' soft power will be diminished because we cut USAID, but we *really* needed to send that money to Argentina to protect a right wing populist president.

Can't have people thinking unfettered capitalism is bad for a country's economy!

Some weirdo on Twitter has been absolutely melting down for like 36 straight hours because I posted:

When this is over, do not forget what ICE did, and what ICE is. And do not make room for them in society. Make sure they know that they are, and will continue to be, reviled and beneath contempt.

"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them..."

U.S. Constitution, Article III, Section III
Trump: "The ones that are run by radical left Democrats -- what they've done to San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles. They're very unsafe places & we're gonna straighten them out one by one. This is gonna be a major part for some people in this room. That's a war too. It's war from within"
Are we going to war with Venezuela? Did the Secretary of War gather all the country's generals to force them to say he's a big, important boy who definitely doesn't have a drinking problem?

Find out tomorrow on the next episode of what the fuck has the country come to!

In honor of Eric Adams dropping out, I'm now resharing my all-time favorite bit of Eric Adams content

for years, this thing was like my video from The Ring, where I had to get other people to watch it in order for me to stay alive

enjoy

What are we supposed to be taking "seriously but not literally" about the president sharing AI news reports promoting the "medbed" conspiracy?

How could this be interpreted to serve any purpose besides driving his followers deeper into conspiracy theories?
This week: Tylenol gives you autism.

Next week: Reading the Epstein files makes you trans. That's why you can't trust the FBI agents who reviewed them.

One of the natural consequences of blurring the line between state censorship and “cancel culture” was making it easier to engage in state censorship.

I leave it to your imagination whether the people who did that intended that result or were merely recklessly indifferent to it.
This isn’t “cancel culture,” it is markedly way worse
1. You can't joke about me.
2. You can't say what I'm doing is illegal.
3. You must report that I shot 20 under par last week.

At this rate I give it a year before we get the first report of 80 year old Trump competing on par with professional athletes.
