Locking people up for being poor, sick, or in crisis doesn’t solve the problem and in fact makes it worse. When people are detained instead of supported, they often lose housing, jobs, and vital connections. That instability drives desperation, which fuels crime and social harm. (1/6)

"This isn't just about individual family income—it is about how income is distributed in society. Both children from wealthy and lower-income families showed altered neurodevelopment and we established that this has a lasting impact on well-being."

UBI trials can't test this. We need to just do it.
Societal inequality linked to structural brain changes in children
Income inequality in society has been linked to structural changes in the brains of children who go on to experience poorer mental health.

“Economic democracy is a system where people share ownership and decision making over the power and resources in their communities. Rather than profit and pure self-interest, it is grounded in values of solidarity, cooperation, democracy, and sustainability.”
Capitalism is ultimately an authoritarian form of economics that fosters the rise of billionaires, monopolies, purchased politics, and wealth inequality. We combat authoritarianism with democracy. Economic democracy is the path forward, not more capitalism for the wealthy at the expense of the many.

BC has a revenue problem, not a spending problem

The solution to BC’s fiscal challenges isn’t spending cuts. Instead, BC needs progressive revenue measures.

“B.C. faces record high income inequality: richest 20% hold 53%of disposable income, the highest in Canada, while the poorest 20% hold only 3%. The growing concentration of income and wealth creates a moral imperative & economic opportunity for progressive taxation” vancouversun.com/opinion/op-e...

On Sunday, the International Association of Genocide Scholars said that Israel’s nearly two-year military campaign in Gaza, which has killed tens of thousands of people and left swaths of the enclave in rubble, meets “the legal definition of genocide.”
Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, leading scholars' association says
Israel's foreign ministry called the resolution “disgraceful,” but it added to a growing chorus from rights groups concluding that Israel is committing genocide.
