RE: career paths, I think I would thrive in an academic context or as a librarian, putting books in order and organizing databases, but those are heavily gatekept positions. I'd even be content putting stuff on shelves at a conbini, but I don't think JP Immigration would be super happy

Was discouraged from pursuing art as a career at every turn by my parents, then saw how manga artists lived and gave up because I didn't want to hate drawing. Chose my second favorite thing that I thought could keep on doing indefinitely which was translation, still get burnt out from time to time

one of the things that makes me most mad about genAI (and there are many) is we've been told there's not enough money for hiring. but there's billions poured into ai.
so not enough money to hire workers. but infinite money to pour into technology whose goal is never having to pay workers again.

I don't know which of my kouhais need to hear this, but because I'm seeing this in a ton of commercial J>E game locs: you really shouldn't retain quotation marks in the same places as the Japanese source text 9 times of 10, especially outside dialogue. Punctuation parity in general is often sloppy.

Love how disabling the smart features on Gmail basically broke my email page because they're of course coalescing other useful functions in there so you'll be compelled to not disable the AI learning. But to me this is more of an incentive to be done with Gmail sooner rather than later 🤡
