Did you know I write a horror series called the Order of the Strawberry Circle? Think Coraline, but set in a small town in Germany with monsters out of local folklore.
It's wide and filled with my weird illustrations. I highly recommend starting with Bad Grains (the Halloween one!).

AUTHOR INTERVIEW: SCRIBBLER JOHNNY
Q: Who are your biggest influences?
A: Rumiko Takahashi and Stephen King probably.

Q:What horror movie was the last one to scare you, and why?
A: Sweet Home. It seems a bit silly at first, but it gets really into that grueling horror like Evil Dead, and with very effective special effects.

Q: Favorite snack to go with a horror movie?
A: Chocolate!

Want to know more about the inspirations behind Wheelchair Seating for the Apocalypse?Check out this week's #authorinterview. K.Q. Watson talks favorite horror movies, underappreciated books, and Canadian movie snacks.
Meet author K. Q. Watson kqwatson.bsky.social and her book Wheelchair Seating for the Apocalypse!
Q: What do you love about horror?
A: I love how horror explores dark and twisted things, and sometimes finds humanity or understanding in them. Or sometimes it's apologetically vile.

Q: Who are your biggest influences?
A: Two of my favourite movies are Jacob's Ladder (1990's one) and SEVEN. The aesthetics of those movies are just perfect. I'm also really inspired by HR Giger, Joel-Peter Witkin, and the Silent Hill video games.

Q: What horror movie was the last one to scare you, and why?
A: Alien Romulus I think. I actually don't watch many horror movies. I really loved Sinners but I wouldn't call it scary. Also, Cats.

Q: What horror book/creator is seriously underappreciated and why do you love them?
A: I feel like I'm the only person who enjoyed Cassandra Khaw's The Salt Grows Heavy. It's very lyrical and purple prose but it's genuinely disturbing and I absolutely loved it.

Q: Favorite snack to go with a horror movie?
A: My favourite snack to ever snack for any occasion is Hawkin's Cheezies because Canadians gonna Canadian, but if I'm in a theatre or something, popcorn with Maltesers mixed in.

Rotten Roots follows graveyard keeper Sven and his ghost dog Fi when they investigate why the faces of the dead are sprouting on the cemetery trees.
It's suitable for adults and this review even calls it a perfect kickoff to spooky season:

Bad Grains & Whiteout are suitable for readers age 8+ as well as adults. Both follow 11-year-old Jo, who has to rescue her older brother from an ancient evil that lives under the fields of her German hometown.

I feel this. I can't put up any decorations this year because the landlord has scheduled major renovations at exactly Halloween and it's just so sad. 🫠

Did I mention yet? Someone here recommended Dead Talents Society as a horror movie to watch alongside the excellent Exhuma. I did finally get around to it and I loved, loved, loved it. This is THE horror movie to watch with friends (who don't mind subtitles).

Wild wine has completely overgrown this nearby building. In the summer it hums ominously with scores of wasps and bees. But it's grown quiet now. I was hoping for a sunny day to catch these beautiful colors, but that's not happening, so here goes anyway...

The other day, someone found out I'm a writer and asked me if I write "real" books, and idk what that means?
What's a not-real book? Not trad-pubbed? Not available in the bookstore down the road? Or was it meant as novel-length vs. short stories?
