"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

You rarely get iconic symbolism so on the nose. Writers would probably call it unrealistic

The notion that crime and the economy were so bad 2023-24 that Americans reacting to objective personal material conditions had to do a fascism does not hold water.
If material, why would it be disproportionately white? Do you think nonwhite people don't experience crime or economic challenges?

Only the military remains outside Trump’s grip. Despite the firing of several top officers—and his threat to fire more—the U.S. armed forces are still led by generals and admirals whose oath is to the Constitution, not the president. But for how long?

One of the reasons I *do* fight with people over the Fairness Doctrine is that I have a vain hope that people will understand that there is no magical solution to authoritarianism. "If only we had Law XYZ" is lazy.
My simple guide for anyone wanting to make future comments on the FD are please don't. We have serious problems and beating this dead horse doesn't seem to serve any productive purpose.

I don’t intend to diminish any lived experiences in the modern day being a person of color…but does anyone think it’s more dangerous for black people to protest today than it would have been in the 50s or 60s?
It’s incredible how easy it is to get people on Blue Sky to argue that challenging the Trump administration is too dangerous, just by framing it around privilege and not the need to resist encroaching authoritarianism.
As a straight well off white guy, I am aware that what is safe for me to do is very different for say....anyone not white? You need to have a think about your responsibility to use your platform carefully. This is legitimately harmful misinformation - someone could get killed doing what u suggest.

Anyone who believes the average Democrat, or *average* Republican, is blood thirsty needs to touch grass. People like Loomer are the threat. They need to be defeated by ideas and political action. Don’t get me wrong, there are rabid maga out there. But not as common as you’d think based off Twitter.

The FCC Chair saying “You can deal with Kimmel the easy way or the hard way” is the very definition of a chilling effect on speech, and a good indicator the First Amendment is a dead letter in the Trump regime. Free speech is dying in America and none of our free speech warriors seem to care

It is genuinely humiliating as an America to have this sour, cowardly, narcissistic lout represent us and to know that so many Americans applaud conduct like this. Just deeply embarrassing.

The thing about Charlie Kirk is that lots of terrible people get murdered and it's still a terrible crime. Murdering him was a terrible crime. And he was a terrible person: a repulsive bigot who openly denigrated millions of Americans because of their race, sexuality, etc.

MAGA are moral cowards. This disgusting behavior was predictable when the news of Kirk broke. His killer is responsible for the waves of violence and malice rippling through the country.
A social media user—wrongly accused of posting negatively about Charlie Kirk—was suspended from his job alongside a tidal wave of threatening messages and phone calls, sending his mother and sister fleeing from their home.

The free speech activist who built a list of professors he worked to get fired for their speech must be celebrated for his support of free speech, and anyone who quotes his speech accurately in context will be fired and/or face state punishment by the champions of free speech, do I have that right?

I think "media attention inflation received" is separable from "actual inflation," which is why inflation narratives remained a panic even while inflation returned to normal. All that matters what people are paying attention to: crime, or inflation, or caravans, or ebola, or scandal, or egg prices
You don't think inflation, and the media attention it received, was a driving factor?
