A new short story is out! “To Keep the Non-Euclidean at Bay” is a companion story to my next novel Blessed is the Rot, but it can also be a standalone read.
November 7, 2025 at 12:40 PM
The Church of Impermanence rules Simetria. It is responsible for keeping the creep of the non-Euclidean at bay. This includes warding distortions, corrupted pockets of spacetime, and providing mercy killings to those that come in contact with them.

Simetria is the heart of civilization and home to the Church of Impermanence. It is divided into the upper and lower cities, where the wealthy and less well-to-do reside, respectively.

I finally got around to ordering print copies of the two issues of @clarkesworldmagazine.com with my stories. They’re smaller than I imagined, but I’m loving the size!

It never ceases to amaze me how much my novels improve from beta reader feedback. Here, I’m thinking the story is solid, but just a couple of their remarks cause new possibilities spring to mind. It’s like the story comes back to life and unfolds before my eyes. So exhilarating. Okay, on to edits!

Last night, traveling home from a book convention and waiting on my last of four trains in an 11 hour trip, I was in a foul mood. The previous train had been canceled. I just wanted to get home. Then in the middle of my brooding, I saw that I was in the midst of something miraculous.

LunCon update! I sold a few books, did an author reading, heard interesting talks/panels, and met fun folks!

All packed and ready to head to Lund tomorrow for LunCon @luncon-sfkongress.bsky.social 😎

This will be my first time traveling to Sweden. At least the 11+ hour train journey gives me lots of time to write!

I’m on a moss-reading kick this morning thanks to a recent trip to the Black Forest. I’ve always thought these weird little plants looked so cool and gave off peaceful vibes. I’m thinking there’s the seed for a short story somewhere here.

Added this statement to my website’s About page.

In related news, Nytho was pirated by Anthropic. The payout situation is uncertain for indie authors. What a time to get serious about my writing 🫠

Finally got the author proof of Blessed is the Rot from the printing company. Currently at page 95 out of 323. I’m always glad to catch errors at this stage. It’s crazy how much you miss reading on a screen!

When your inner writer takes over in your day job. Doing peer reviews of scientific articles is so painful. Seriously, so many scientists cannot write and don’t even know basic grammar. Communication skills are not emphasized enough in STEM…
