I'm becoming more convinced that when the MAGA bloc fractures, we're going to see some weird movement across lines. Where one of the splinter-remnants of MAGA (MTG, Boebert) takes on members from the tanky far-left, essentially just united in being pro-Russia, anti-Israel, and antisemitic.

Capitalism is the best system we have yet developed. It is obviously superior to socialism as implemented (Nordic social democracy is neither socialism nor viable in the US, but it *does* fall under capitalism broadly)

it was actually really bad that Vietnam + Iraq made sure two successive generations of people thought war was only for imperialism and evil motives. The anti-interventionist mindset leads to a morally vacuous reification of the idea that countries own their citizens&cultural norms supersede morality
something I think about a lot is that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has given a whole generation of young American liberals a reason to support some degree of military interventionism which they would probably otherwise still be pretty soured on post-Iraq and Afghanistan

So, over the weekend I got iMessage working on my Android (so I don't have to hear more complaints about broken groupchats). The app I used supports "Find My Friends", but bc I don't have anyone sharing their location with me it resulted in the funniest fucking tooltip.

I don't want to call this person out because they're not entirely wrong, but I think what this misses was that right after 9/11 the political culture were in fact scared shitless that 9/11 was going to happen again and again. It wasn't about civility that made people support WOT, it was fear.
