I’m reading The Way Up Is Death by Dan Hanks for the @britfantasysoc.bsky.social book club. It’s great so far, very astute, more than a little grisly though, so might not be for everyone

Is this one going to WFC?

Happy National Coming Out Day!

Been out and proud for 30 years now. Won't say it's always been easy, but I live my life on my own terms.

Today I'm thinking of those who face challenges for being who they are. And fighting for a better world. 🏳️‍🌈💙🏳️‍⚧️

Hooray! We are past 50% in our campaign. Thank you, everyone!

Today Cheryl is off to Aberystwyth for the October Queer Lit Quarterly meeting. In honour of that, today's update tells the very queer story of our cover. (Content warning for sexual assault.)

The cover of They Are Still Here (Mae Nhw Yma O Hyd).

The image is of the sorceror, Gwydion, surrounded by wild animals (wolf, boar, deer) in a Celtic knotwork frame. Gwydion's hat is crowned with antlers. He carries an axe in his right hand and an oak twig in his left.

Art by Josh Arklin.

It's World Mental Health day today.

Lately, I've been having a major ongoing wobble that almost got seriously bad the other night.

I have general anxiety disorder and was diagnosed with depression as a teenager. Therapy helps. Talking helps.

I poured my experience into a book I have on submission

Do you feel better off after austerity, Brexit and rising bills under Westminster?

With independence, we can raise living standards and build an economy that works for Scotland.

It’s appalling. The 12yo is now taller than me!

Oh, I hadn’t thought of Vinted! Thanks, I’ll definitely take a look

They’re not. I might have a look for second-hand Dr Martens on eBay. Still won’t be cheap, but maybe they’ll last longer

None of the shoes were high-end, but they weren’t particularly cheap either 😭

My 12yo has burst 3 pairs of shoes in 2 weeks and now needs both school shoes/boots and trainers immediately. Please buy my books so that I can keep this child shod

Believe me when I say that sometimes this is what holds authors’ resolve together, because publishing is bleak af.

This is your monthly reminder: if you like a piece of writing, a piece if art, etc-- TELL THE PERSON WHO MADE IT!!! Leave a comment, tell them with *words* that you like it.
Seriously, it goes *such* a long way.

A year ago today, without fanfare or promotion, THE LITTLE CHRISTMAS LIBRARY was published. A few hundred people read it. Despite it being almost invisible, it's a book I'm immensely proud of. If you fancied some Christmas magic rooted in true northern grit.

It's just 28 days to WFC. PR3 has gone out and with it the news about our new MC. We are very sorry to lose Sarah Pinborough but delighted to welcome Joanne Harris.
Joanne Harris was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and has written over 20 novels, published in over 50 countries.

We're seeing some new faces around here so let us reintroduce REACTOR MAGAZINE we talk about books, movies, TV shows, and anything else in the fantasy, science fiction, and horror realms that catches our eye. Sometimes that's grimdark fantasy. Sometimes that's dragon romance.

Since the article itself is paywalled... my new novel is called THIS IS WHERE THE FUTURE BLEEDS, which @losbennett.bsky.social sold to @titanbooks.bsky.social earlier this year. It's a fantasy adventure in a queer-normative world featuring fractured futures, sapphic romance, and giant wasps.
