“Eerily beautiful experimental compositions”—Electronic Sound / Musician and sound artist specialising in magnetic tape and field recording
Pinned
Some good news: I’ve been awarded Arts Council England funding to expand my field skills and develop conceptual ideas. The highlight will be a short residency at @campfr.bsky.social in the Pyrenees. Then in autumn, I'll resume work on the album and other projects. LOTS to come 😊

I never expected to see Akiko Yano play live, let alone briefly meet her and get an album signed. Good fortune to discover that the closing night of the London Jazz Festival at The Barbican was happening the day after Radiohead, so we stayed in London for it. She’s amazing.

Yet to come down from last night’s Radiohead gig. We were lucky to get codes and decided we’d stump for vip tickets if that’s all there was, and got front row. I’ve seen them several times, including Glasto ‘97, but last night was perfect, the entire band giving everything. Just… wow. Here’s Jonny…

I love this so much. Jon's side project is a wonderful example of what it means to really love music and how rewarding it is to be a fan.
Side project launch time!

This one is for fans of Stars of the Lid & ambient/classical music. I've made a site in @getkirby.com to archive all the live recordings and of act as 'SOTL’ site as none exists. Adam Wiltzie also provided the previously unseen video footage:

Shocked about Mani. Forever grateful that my teens aligned with the rise of the Roses' in 1988-90, when the summers went on forever. Here's a love letter I wrote back in 2012. colly.com/journal/the-...
The Stone Roses at Heaton Park
In 1989, a band changed my life, but when they recently reformed I didn't want to know. This weekend, I gave my scepticism the slip and witnessed the resurrection.

In 1992, an Estonian female choir made me a cassette of traditional Estonian songs. The tape has degraded over the years, but I was able to use a few fragments in
'Singing Revolution', a track specially created for @electronicsound.bsky.social Cold War Electronica edition and double CD. Out now.

One of my fave live albums, a joyous snapshot of Tokyo 1979, when top artists often worked together. Yano's touring band often featured all three of YMO, Kazumi Watanabe, Minako Yoshida, even Tatsuro Yamashita. Kate Bush fans will appreciate Yano's style. driftrecords.com/products/aki...

Remember Bent's beautiful Swollen, released 25 yrs ago? They've rerecorded it, and it's gorgeous.

Wanted to share this because I've been friends with Millsy (one half of Bent) since junior school and he's mastered every Site Nonsite track and taught me so much about production. ffm.to/d7n2naa

Having a tape stock sale, from now until end of #BandcampFriday.

I've found enough EP tapes to create five bundles — all four tapes (without maps or other extras) for £20

Reductions on everything else: Live at Delia’s £6, Remixed £5, Japan Series compilation £7

Driven grouse shooting should be banned entirely and our uplands—drained and burned by the rich for grouse farming—returned to health. Decades of work have failed, so perhaps we should try licensing, but birds of prey will still be killed in appalling ways, and I'll likely never see a Hen Harrier.
The illegal killing of our beautiful birds must stop.

It’s good to see MPs will be debating this urgent issue on Monday.

Thank you to everyone who's spoken up so far. We’re close to getting the change our upland wildlife needs.
The illegal killing of Hen Harriers has hit a devastating new high. ⚠️

A new RSPB report reveals 102 incidents in just five years - with the majority on, or near, grouse moors.

A thread…
