Some good news: I’ve been awarded Arts Council England funding to expand my field skills and develop conceptual ideas. The highlight will be a short residency at @campfr.bsky.social in the Pyrenees. Then in autumn, I'll resume work on the album and other projects. LOTS to come 😊
Field recording with a Tascam DR-40 and Akai mics on a footpath near Kinder Scout. Close-up of Tascam Portastudio 414 and effects pedals on a mossy wall. Lengths of magnetic tape ebbing in the shallow river. Cream-colour cardboard tape reel box containing unspooled magnetic tape and a field notes card. A logo below shows that this work will be supported by Arts Council England using National Lottery funding.

I mean, just check out the groove on the title track. In this studio performance, she's got YMO (Sakamoto, Hosono, Takahashi) in the shadows and Watanabe shredding. Utter joy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6GH...

One of my fave live albums, a joyous snapshot of Tokyo 1979, when top artists often worked together. Yano's touring band often featured all three of YMO, Kazumi Watanabe, Minako Yoshida, even Tatsuro Yamashita. Kate Bush fans will appreciate Yano's style. driftrecords.com/products/aki...

YES! A million things I could say about my fave band and all the gigs, but I'll resist. I'm curious, though... did you intentionally start your series to time the Kid A post with its 25th anniversary week?! — because if so, 👏

I know I keep saying this, but I sincerely thank anyone who continues to take time in reading and sharing these posts. It means a great deal....

One of many great jazz albums to feature stunning artwork by Fujita — my wife's a big fan and we have this very album framed on the wall. Cheers! www.discogs.com/artist/21869...

Calling any fans of Stars of the Lid out there: do you have any audio, video or photos from when you've seen them live? If so, please do get in touch!

This is for a side project I’m doing that’s kind of related to a recent blog post: hicks.design/journal/star....

Ah yes, a real time travel album. ~20yrs ago I made websites for bands; hard work for low pay, but we'd get backstage access. I met Damon at a Twisted Nerve thing and initially failed to engage him. So, I tried again and referenced his love for Jeff Buckley — and he lit up! Best friends for an hour.

Remember Bent's beautiful Swollen, released 25 yrs ago? They've rerecorded it, and it's gorgeous.

Wanted to share this because I've been friends with Millsy (one half of Bent) since junior school and he's mastered every Site Nonsite track and taught me so much about production. ffm.to/d7n2naa

I love jazz these days — found a way via electronic music, as you did. But more significantly, my wife got me into Japanese jazz, like Kohsuke Mine's First, Hiroshi Suzuki's Cat, and my absolute favourite Sunday morning album — Ryo Fukui's Scenery. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hrr3...

Having a tape stock sale, from now until end of #BandcampFriday.

I've found enough EP tapes to create five bundles — all four tapes (without maps or other extras) for £20

Reductions on everything else: Live at Delia’s £6, Remixed £5, Japan Series compilation £7

The EPs @sitenonsite.com has created as memories of Japan are truly beautiful and often moving. This titled 'Hiroshima' is typical of the dedication he's given to the entire series and a poignant relection on a catastrophic moment in human history...

Today is #HiroshimaDay, marking 80 years since the devastating atomic bombing. My song Paper Cranes documents an emotional visit to the peace museum and an encounter with a survivor. Today and every Aug 6, I’ll donate any profits to a Hibakusha charity. sitenonsite.bandcamp.com/album/hirosh...

Honoured that Tot/Onyx included Paper Cranes on their moving Hiroshima/Nagasaki mix (my first play on NTS). "Making this mix gave me time to reflect on the ongoing genocide and atrocities... It proved that sometimes music can tell stories better than the language." www.nts.live/shows/guests...

I've been a U2 critic; still a band I think of in terms of a killer playlist rather than great albums. But AB is the one album I bought and loved, and I absolutely agree that Berlin is a huge part of why it works. And I LOVED reading the stuff about you and Mrs LK ❤️

Thanks, Andy. Yeah, I've been researching all of the new (to me) devices in great detail, but yet to dig deep into the bat detector stuff. Seemed like highest freqs of voices, bike wheels, etc. remained audible in some form as I increased the base frequency beyond 20kHz and eventually faded.

I was 14 when this record came out and it changed my entire world — a pivotal moment marked on my Colly website timeline. Whenever I pull out that battered and discoloured sleeve I experience a similar sense of time travel. Lovely to learn more about your Dad here too x

Driven grouse shooting should be banned entirely and our uplands—drained and burned by the rich for grouse farming—returned to health. Decades of work have failed, so perhaps we should try licensing, but birds of prey will still be killed in appalling ways, and I'll likely never see a Hen Harrier.
rspbaction.bsky.social
The illegal killing of our beautiful birds must stop.

It’s good to see MPs will be debating this urgent issue on Monday.

Thank you to everyone who's spoken up so far. We’re close to getting the change our upland wildlife needs.
rspb.bsky.social
The illegal killing of Hen Harriers has hit a devastating new high. ⚠️

A new RSPB report reveals 102 incidents in just five years - with the majority on, or near, grouse moors.

A thread…
