I don’t really see what the point of instagram/tiktok will be once absolutely everything is fake. If you can’t trust any images or videos at all to be real will people really still spend hours on there wasting their time working out what is ai or not? Can’t imagine they will

Calling any fans of Stars of the Lid out there: do you have any audio, video or photos from when you've seen them live? If so, please do get in touch!

This is for a side project I’m doing that’s kind of related to a recent blog post: hicks.design/journal/star....

Personally, I would use Söhne for everything!

I had a conversation with the developer - because of licensing cost he had to swap the font he had for a similar open source one. I'd suggested Outfit as a close replacement for what he had (which is what he used), but he mentioned that it will be customisable.

Yep, this is very much not a replacement for Apple Music - a companion for sure. For replacements, there's 'Albums' or 'Marvis' (didn't get on with their UIs), Cider (nice UI, but no lossless), or Daft Music (a very new app: daftmusic.app the only reason I want to update to MacOS 26!)
Daft Music – The Definitive Apple Music Experience on Mac
Daft Music is a fast, beautifully designed Apple Music app built natively for macOS. Enjoy high-performance playback, elegant design, and a seamless music experience.

Went to the Ashmolean Museum tonight to see “A conversation with Stanley Donwood”.

He mentioned how he works in the studio while they’re recording, and that HE WAS WITH THEM IN ABBEY ROAD A FEW WEEKS AGO. More evidence for the new album rumours!

Ah, thanks! I was imagining it was like the old iOS 1-6 system that added the gloss layer at the system level.

Since 2005, I've had an office away from home, sharing with other freelancers. It's been SUCH fun, but it's now time to move back home.

To find people we could share with, we had a tradition of making them watch this. If they found it funny, we knew we'd be OK:

Me too, which is why I haven't updated. And yet…

Would love to know what's up with some apps on iOS 18 getting an 'enforced' liquid glass effect. I thought that was added at an OS level?
App icons for Instagram, BBC Weather and Monzo, with annoyingly shiny top left and bottom right corners. It subtly makes them look crooked

Great time to dive in to Kirby! I’m currently building another project in this wonderful CMS.

- 100% control over markup.
- Doesn’t inject any scripts or other bobbins like a certain popular CMS
- Beautifully clean and customisable back end
- Easy to update, backup or move elsewhere.

Dear everyone in tech support, If anyone tells you to use the phrase "I completely understand how confusing this feels" please just kick them in the nuts and ignore them. My tech woes are not "confusing" and my feelings are irrelevant. My problem is that your tech does not work the way it used to.

I don’t mind the capsules/button shapes, but I can’t be doing with all the shiny edges and constant “things moving distracting you from content”. Turning on ‘Reduce Motion’ helps on iPad, but doesn’t solve the blingy edges
