I mostly ramble about trivial nerd stuff, but I'm also on a Bluesky list for "angry politics." My politics are that bigots should fall into a deep, empty well. He/Him.

So, honestly, seeing "roguelike/roguelite elements" in game descriptions is kind of a turn-off for me? I'm just not crazy about the concept. But I do REALLY like the look of Absolum

I've changed my mind a bit.

Indie for AAA-ers: Outer Wilds. Beautiful environment and direct control, which I think might be an easier transition than something more click-y or abstract.

AAA for Indie-ers: Alan Wake II. Blockbuster made by proud weirdos. (I'm not getting into any "AA vs. AAA debates here)
Which indie game would you recommend to those who ONLY play AAA?

Scott Adams dying at 68 rather than 69 is the perfect capstone to a life of being almost — but not quite — funny

RIPiss Scott Adams, if you'd lasted just a couple more months it would've been even funnier
Scott Adams, Disgraced Dilbert Creator, Dies at 68
Scott Adams has died at the age of 68. Adams created the comic 'Dilbert', which became hugely popular in the 1990s. 'Dilbert' was pulled from publication after Adams went on a racist rant in 2023.

I got into video games via point and click adventures, and I guess that's why I think of games, first and foremost, as stories you play.

Specifically, stories about how you can't use these two things together

This game - Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay - was so fucking good; revolutionary, even. Also, you can see a ton of influence of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - the founders of MachineGames worked on this.

So of course you can't buy it legally anymore because rights bullshit

Finished up The Seance of Blake Manor, with all mysteries solved and a happy(-ish) ending. Lovely experience.
Playing The Seance of Blake Manor. Really liking it so far. I was initially a bit apprehensive at the time mechanic - each action, including examining things, takes 1 minute, and time matters. Never completed The Last Express because I just couldn't with a similar, though not identical, mechanic.

I see Swincke is continuing his recent "No No, Dig Up, Stupid!" style of PR into 2026.
Larian CEO says Divinity could have gen AI assets in it but only if the tools are trained on the studio's own data.

"If we use a GenAI model to create in-game assets, then it'll be trained on data we own."

Heads-up, several legitimately useful things with absolutely no reason to be related to google's gemini "AI"— e.g. Reply Nudges, Package Tracking, & Spell Check— are bundled under "smart features."

I'm not saying don't turn it off, I'm saying be aware of to what you may need to again pay attention.
