The thing that's awesome about #python is that you'll have like 57,000 versions of different modules and shit scattered all over the filesystem and they all have to be there because fuck backwards compatibility, and just when you think you've got a handle on how file precedence works, you're […]

Came around a random corner and discovered this needless temptation for anyone who grew up watching Dukes of Hazzard:
A forklift-rated yard ramp sits alone in an empty parking lot, looking for all the world like a jump ramp. A quartering view of the same yard ramp.

Goddammit lol...

Cropped screenshot from a wiki page. One line, reading literally:
"FIXME: STOP LEAVING FIXME IN WIKI PAGES"
Text is allcaps. The text that says "stop leaving fixme in wiki pages" is both bold and red.

@cadey oh god, is this one of those "security by checkbox" things some people have to live with? Fortunately we (org with a couple AS numbers and more IPv4 space than anyone has a right to) don't have such an idiotic insurance company.

Network admins who disable ICMP: do you also take the numbers off the front of your house to keep the burglars out? #sysadmin

@ai6yr no making it rain on Mar-A-Lago allowed! LOL

My ex wife and I have a 14-year-old together. We get along great, but sometimes (often) we miscommunicate. This is like the perfect example. #parenting
Text message snippet with my ex-wife:
Her: Hi. Can you help me? I told her very kindly that she's not doing. She has acid. She thinks die. Unfortunately mom, me, you? Have avoid
Her: Avoid
Her: Maybe back me up make her feel better
Me: Where did she get acid?
Her: Acid reflux? From me, from in-n-out
Her: Call me briefly

@jsm yeah that's just plain rude.

@freiheit I think it was something really absurd like netcat that I found installed as a snap once and didn't even have the ability to access all the network resources it needed.

The other bullshit thing #ubuntu is doing is preferentially installing snap packages when you use their GUI package […]

@jsm again though, only one packaging system per distro please. If it's flatpack, great. But not flatpack plus RPM. Yanno?
social.taupehat.com
#linux distros: either use snapd for ALL your packaging or use snapd for NONE of your packaging. I'm surely not the only user who is sick and fucking tired of having to figure out whether the problem is with the snap package versus the distro package (deb, rpm etc).

Mostly, fuck snapd - it […]

[Tiny tragedy, big feels]

Coda: I found a more appropriate and respectful place to leave it, where it was beneath the open sky and also where the gleaners of the world will find it and take sustenance from what it once was.

[Tiny tragedy, big feels]

Last bits of cleaning out the garage and I found the most tragic thing: a hummingbird had somehow got into the garage without a way out and spent its last moments gazing out the window where all the food and water it needed was […]

A hummingbird sits dead on a windowsill facing outside where it was unable to go.

A duck and its guardian
An arched gateway covered in foliage admits a view of the front steps of a house. Standing in front of the open door is a white crested duck looking to the right of the frame. Standing beside the duck, staring directly into the camera with its ears erect and its eyes slightly squinted, is a powerfully-built yellow-brown dog.

@ai6yr @spocko @USelaine isn't Serang where the shipbreakers are? That place is a special corner of hell. Why is food being produced there?

Couldn't resist comparing the current muppet to a past muppet:
Dominar Rygel XVI from the TV series Farscape stands at the bottom of a stalled escalator, with a woman wearing a cream-colored blazer standing directly in front of him. He's glaring back towards the camera with utter stupidity and malignance.

Turns out when you rent a cargo van from one of the local non-chain outfits it comes with "free candy" not yet spray painted on the side, but you can see it there anyway.
A full size white Chevy cargo van sits in a driveway, looking anonymously menacing.

The great thing about getting into the zone with a project is the feeling that comes from breaking through a lot of hard problems.

The not-so-great thing about getting into the zone is that it's really hard to get up and walk away from it. Also, at least in my case, when I'm in the zone I'm […]

Narcissus and Goldmund have been catching up in our front yard. They have a lot to talk about.
Two garden gnomes are on a small outdoor table surrounded by green foliage. One gnome is laying back with his arms behind his head, looking very relaxed and is smiling up at the other gnome who is standing with a coil of rope over his shoulder, looking down at the resting gnome. His mouth is open and he appears to be talking animatedly.

Given how consistently terrible #atlassian software is at every level (frontend, backend, customer support, billing practices), and for how long they've been consistently terrible, how in the everlasting fuck are we as an industry so fucking hung up on using their garbage bullshit software? […]
