@sanders.senate.gov: You're telling the American people that the American Medical Association–representing hundreds of thousands of people–have been co-opted and that they should not trust their doctors?

Everybody is corrupt, but you? Is that what we're looking at? I don't think so
Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, Gen Z, and Gen Alpha ALL deserve a dignified retirement– NOT TO GET WORKED TO DEATH!

We can promise a secure retirement for ALL generations if we tax the rich!

Social Security is NOT a handout! It is a benefit earned with every paycheck.

Social Security must be protected and expanded– not cut, privatized, or means-tested!

ALL generations are sick of billionaire greed 🗣️🗣️🗣️

This scheme will not solve the problems created by an understaffed agency– it will only make them worse.

There’s a much better solution: Reverse last year’s cuts and fully staff our Social Security field offices.
January 9, 2026 at 9:51 PM
A nationwide system might have superficial appeal and sound efficient to someone like Commissioner Bisignano, who had to look up what Social Security is. The reality is that field offices have been the backbone of our successful Social Security system for almost a century.

If people have difficulties resolving Social Security issues, they may contact their member of Congress for help. Constituent services staffers are trained to deal with the local SSA office, but they would have a harder time resolving cases that are being handled across the country.
January 9, 2026 at 9:51 PM
The law requires original documents for certain claims, not just uploaded copies. To change this would require an act of Congress.

The documents are not ones that people can easily mail and be without for even a day. How will that work if staffers are handling cases across the country?
January 9, 2026 at 9:51 PM
Social Security interacts with state laws and laws about common law marriage (which impacts spousal benefits) & workers compensation can differ in every state.

SSA staffers can’t become experts for all 50 states. Is the plan to replace trained civil servants with decades of experience with AI?
January 9, 2026 at 9:51 PM
Essentially, it would mean that someone who needs help with their Social Security could get directed to a SSA staffer across the country, instead of at their local field office.

This plan is massively inefficient and will create numerous problems.
January 9, 2026 at 9:51 PM
Scrambling to address this self-inflicted wound, Trump announced plans to cut field offices in half and a rushed plan to deal with workload that is designed to FAIL.

If implemented, it will be catastrophic for Social Security beneficiaries.
January 9, 2026 at 9:51 PM
Before Trump’s second term, the number of Social Security beneficiaries was at an all-time high, while staffing at the SSA was at a 50-year low.

So how did Trump respond? He forced out thousands of the Social Security Administration’s most experienced employees.
January 9, 2026 at 9:51 PM
UPDATE: Someone who needs help with their Social Security could soon get directed to a staffer across the country, instead of at their local field office.

Social Security needs full staffing — NOT a scheme destined to fail.

A worker making $50,000 a year contributes to Social Security with 100% of their income.

A CEO making $20 million a year contributes to Social Security with less than 1% of their income.

Who agrees it’s time to scrap the cap?

#SocialSecurity celebrated its 90th birthday in 2025, but instead of wishes with candles and songs, both workers and beneficiaries are hoping that the lights don't go out and that this is not a swan song.

No one should EVER have to wait weeks, months, or even years to claim their hard earned benefits.
January 8, 2026 at 4:09 PM
No one should die while waiting for Social Security disability benefits.

The sabotage that Trump has done to the Social Security Administration is unforgivable.
January 8, 2026 at 4:06 PM
Every year that the retirement age is raised translates to a 7% cut in lifetime Social Security benefits.

We will NOT be made to work until we die!

Sara Haghdoosti: We cannot assume that Trump is bluffing when he is talking about doing this and Nicaragua, in Cuba, in Iran, and in Greenland as well. It is up to us to push back like we have so many times before.

Sara Haghdoosti: We are at a flashpoint here. I know that when it comes to issues like this, in moments like this, when the fear and pain is so real, it can feel like we might not be able to create change. And we just had a senator on this call that told us we do have power.

Tim Kaine: It's time to get this out of the classified setting and before the American public…Housing is up, food is up, healthcare is up, childcare is up. Energy is up. We can't run the US economy, and they're claiming that they're going to seize Venezuelan oil and run the Venezuelan economy?

Nelini Stamp: We have seen this story before. Intervention. Occupation. Regime change. It never ends with freedom. It ends with trauma, displacement, violence, and families paying the price – while corporations cash the checks.

Brittany DeBarros: I joined the military because I believed in the kinds of things we're hearing the Trump administration claim right now...I found myself in the middle of a war that was doing nothing but spending American tax dollars as my own community struggled to survive and live at home.
January 8, 2026 at 1:56 AM
Sam Ratner: This is not just a war for oil, but a war for oil executives. Already today Trump was saying that U.S. taxpayers should front the money to rebuild Venezuelan oil infrastructure, all while oil companies keep the proceeds from the oil.
